Big difference between picking a dope beat, and picking dope beat that suits you artistically.

    I don’t think Max is crying..nigga did 10 already

But that was before he was on the cusp of real stardom. And he most likely was 100% guilty of the crime that got him ten. Can you imagine being railroaded for what’s essentially a life sentence at the best time of your life, all because you picked the wrong broad and the wrong lawyer? I maintain that nigga is crying right now.

^ c’mon now, Nas came up in the 90’s, you think he doesn’t know a dope beat when he heres it.

    ^^
I think when left to his own devices, without Steve Stoute and Serch holding his hand, he doesnt know what beats are dope, and suit his style in the correct way.

^ you can’t seriously believe this… for rappers hip hop in general is like a sixth sense. Just as natural as you bop your head when you hear something that awakens the spirit, the same is to be said for hip hoppers in general. why you think Nas is any different escapes me. Oh because he doesnt choose to use conventional beats? Nah right.

NIGGER was a classic in my opinion from the title alone..that’s probably just the rebel that I am though.
    ^^^^^^^^^^^
lol @ Nigger in capital letters….Untitled was a piece of art but it failings is in its somber vibe its almost impossible to listen to that album all the way through unless your in that type of mood…when the tragedy of Oscar Grant happened i listen to Untitled for a good week but otherwise i havent listen to that album really Testify and Queens Get The Money get constant spins but thats about it

  22. RIGZ Says:

Lots of artists dont know what they sound good or great over, Bease is right…

Look at Immobilarity…rhymes were crack…beats mighta all been crack for SOMEONE ELSE, but they didnt mesh too well with Rae’s style…He had to come back into his element

Theres alotta albums like that too…

For the most part I dont think Nas does too bad though…His beat selection mis steps are overrated lol

  23. cOLD Says:

people choose to express their art in different ways. Truthfully speaking, I would love to hear Nas spit over your classic beats, on some jacking for beats shit. But that has no lasting effect…

Busta Rhymes music has always irked me…i dont know why…he was bearable in the 90s when the music scene was so diverse but now that he continues to hang on hes become an eye sore ….

It has nothing to do with conventional. You’re using the “oh, he’s artsy” argument to overlook the fact that weak is weak. There’s nothing sixth sense about choosing a dope beat. Its a skill, and some are better at it than others.

^ chosing a dope beat is not a skill b. If thats the case why come there is a popular consensus on nah of what beats are dope and which ones arent. We tend to agree on that because we all have that hip hop bone, that connects us. (none)

  32. &What?! Says:

Nas’ choice of Made You Look proves that he has an ear for beats.

  33. COCCA88crazy88SINCE88 Says:

A young boy got his tongue stuck to a metal pole in Boise, Idaho, yesterday morning and had to be rescued by firefighters, according to the Idaho Statesman. A woman noticed him standing in the freezing cold, deduced what was happening, and called 911. Did she, by chance, see A Christmas Story? The article doesn’t say, and the boy isn’t talking. In fact, he didn’t say much to firefighters after they poured a glass of warm water on the pole and freed his tongue from the frozen pole. Not surprising that the unidentified boy, estimated to be about 10 years of age, didn’t say much — his tongue was bleeding a little bit, and he was likely quite embarrassed. At least no other kids were around to witness the incident.

Last year our own Erik Davis observed that watching A Christmas Story has become a beloved holiday tradition for many families, providing inspiration for the youth of the world: “I’m sure more than a few kids will try to stick their tongues to something cold this winter … just to see if it really sticks. (Warning: Yes, kids, it will really stick.)” Now, we have no evidence that the boy in Boise was actually imitating the movie — boys will be boys and all that — but, at a minimum, it demonstrates Bob Clark’s film will live forever because it’s something we all can relate to. Thanks, Jean Shepherd! You can get in the spirit of things by reading appreciations of the film by Erik Davis (plus his retro review) and Jette Kernion.

nigga im gutter. the drug trade ain’t offerin wut im lookin for.

i’m tryna be rich in one night, not one decade.

theres a BIG DIFFERENCE between my life and yours

    cam’ron said it best

“Your regular married with children, dawg 9 to 5 office pool
Couldn’t live that life, I need a loft and pool
I had too much class, I aint report to school”

    ————

    exactly

I give Nas the utmost credit for being an artist willing to take risks musically, but I also have to be honest in admitting when such risks fail. Nas is definitely better than Jay lyrically, but as ease pointed out earlier, the homie’s had a penchant for selecting bizarre beats (ie damn near the entire Streets Disciple album, both discs), which IMO don’t help in his efforts to execute conceptually.

  36. RIGZ Says:

chosing a dope beat is not a skill b.

    ^^

Yes it is cOLD. And you should know everyone dont like the same kinda beats

And alotta beats may be dope, but its about whats dope for YOU as an artist. Everyone has their own niche & pocket to fit in. Aretha might not sound ill on Timbo beats, but Keri Hilson does…

That “Use the hiphop force” shit sounds good, but it just dont work like that in reality lol. If that was the case, we’d all have the same opinions on whats the dopest beat on every album ever created. Everyone’s ear is different…
