I’ve always seen GRODT as the 00′s version of It’s Dark, sans the club bangers. Mainly due to the amount of anthems and how the whole LP basically got played on the radio.

December 2nd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Tracks like X is Coming and Omen were real dope to the 14-year old me, but they just come off as cheesy now. And I’d rather hear Phil Collins than listened to the song on X’s LP with the “In the Air Tonite” sample. Not to mention that posse cut with those wack niggas that were never heard from again. I also cant listen to Ruff Ryder’s Anthem anymore. Its just not that good.
Banned from TV? The title Track? I love my life? Body in the Trunk? The shit with Busta and Spliff????

Yea, and GRODT doesnt sound as dope as it did when it dropped either. Nobody will admit it, but (media) hype will alter your perceptions of a project.

Melding a West Coast sensibility with East Coast beats and rhymes was genius. And the the best songs on RTD are some of the best hiphop songs of all time. But the last half of the album is saddled with weak production (compared to the first half) that lead to some clunkers, like Respect and Friend of Mine.
The above three albums you named above simply dont have that problem in my opinon.

If anything Doggystyle gets overlooked, cause while it didnt have a song/single as dope as G Thing (although Gin and Juice comes damn close), its a better overall LP.
December 2nd, 2009 at 5:09 pm
And Biggie didnt really hit his perfection zone (as far as rhymes and delivery) until the One More Chance remix. Jay, Nas, and Snoop dropped fully formed out the ether.

Michael McDonald is a fraud….Dr. John has a cajun accent and music is real and pure…Aint no other white dudes in music is black sounding…
Elton John is a fraud too…Dr. John is a mixture of blues and zydeco…which is a new orleans roots sound….but he makes blues music as well….Not in its purest form like robert johnson, son house or lil milton, but all them other white dudes is frauds…

overstood and agreed … DrJohn seems to live the culture while the others profit off it …

Why doesn’t Nas have a good/better ear for beats? No doubt he’s a lyrical genius and will rap circles around your favorite rapper but his beat selection on albums is terrible. If only he had a Jeezy/Ross ear.

I gave Black Brokaw the Jay treatment….I thought it was a regular that had a diff. name…this dude is fishing for internet beef and conflict….what makes it worse is that everyone usually skips over his comments…

I don’t mean he says basketball, but he’s referring to basketball the line after the one where he says ‘basic ball’

Neither has a pure classic in my opinion, but Busta’s first three LPs are all really ill, and Xzibits 40 Dayz and 40 Nights is really dope. Come to think of it, X’s “Aftermath” album, Restless, is real dope too.
