but in term of commercial appeal and business entreprenorial mastermind
he doesnt have the technique. he doesnt sweat the technik

jayz’s carreer’s beggining was the perfect time for him. 90′s ERA was the most prolific… for the hiphop. 80′s was just old school classicism, not a real lucrative market like now. now even ace hood gets some money
without commercial success, back then if you wasnt good, u was done!

I wonder if that’s one of the reasons why Dwight York left the industry. Unbeknown to many, he penned MADD songs back in the day (ex. Harold Melvin’s “Wake Up Everybody” was actually a subliminal message about waking up the Third Eye, also penned by York) and that’s how he was able to fund Egypt of the West in Eatonton, GA. I met/know them personally and even used to sling merch for ‘em at a few of their shows (sidenote: if anybody went to their first NYC show at the Canal Room with the blurred porn playin’ in the background, I was the ninja at the table by the door in the orange Polo sellin’ their cd’s). I remember when I first heard their first joint and thinkin’ how “No More” should’ve been on the radio, had a video, and all the proper promotion.
