XXL’s Top 100 Hip-Hop Websites List

Whew. That was close, but we made it. No ranks. I guess the majority of this list is respectable, but a few of these sites are not Hip-Hop as far as I’m concerned. If you’re gonna consider those kinds of fringe sites, then just call it an “Urban” or “Negro” list or whatever. You can’t call this a “Hip-Hop” list and then have Sandra Rose and Bossip, let’s be serious. (To be fair, the VIBE list had similar problems). Splash has forgotten more about Hip-Hop than some of these people ever knew. But I suppose if you’re not gonna rank the list, then you have to piss people off some other way. Because that’s why lists exist. To piss people off.

I don’t even know how a new rapper could expect to be exposed to the masses. In San Diego, we just lost one of our hip-hop stations, and the one that is left has a playlist of about 10 songs. They play the little white kid with the Usher co-sign, Miley Cyrus, LMFAO, Pitbull, Flo-Rida, Pleasure P, Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas. There’s only two slots left after that SMH.
What did Wale expect?

I know man…when are these people running radio gonna smarten up? The rock stations have been playing the same 20 songs for 30 years now with some new shit sprinkled in [ll]. I can’t believe there isn’t a hip-hop station with the same type of idea yet. With hip-hop they’re always trying to push the next gimick, next artist, new new new new. Sheeeeeeeit, even 106 & Park will have “throwbacks” from 4 years ago.

SEATTLE — Seattle police say a man who thought he was ninja was impaled on a metal fence when he tried to leap over it. An officer who was looking for an assault victim nearby Monday night heard the man screaming for help. Police supported him to prevent further injuries until medics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was in serious condition in intensive care on Tuesday.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt wrote in a department Web site posting that officers thought the man might have been involved in the reported assault, but he insisted he was just a ninja trying to clear a 4- to 5-foot-tall fence.
Witt says the man was “overconfident in his abilities,” and that alcohol likely played a role.

You don’t have to but that’s what makes dude known and gets more music from him to the masses, that’s part of hip hop also and whether we like it or not its the most important..an mc should be versatile and Joe just happens to be one that’s not, I hope he does one day, because he deserves to be on the natl stage also….
They only know what the single is, and singled that out
to be the meaning of what he is about
And bein I’m about my business, not minglin much
runnin my mouth, that shit kept lingerin
But no dummy, that’s the shit I’m sprinklin

St.Louis is known for its violent behavior but you never feel the impact until it hits home. On Nov 30 while leavining a local nightclub , rapper YUNG RO was shot. He was entering a vehicle when he was struck in the head by a stray bullet. His entourage rushed him to Barnes ER where he was treated and released the next day. What’s crazy one month prior to the incident YUNG RO formed a youth awareness program called Runway2Empowerment which denounce crime and voilence. Yung Ro is a independent artist however he has gained national attention among many media outlets. His single Fresha Den A Mall is a female favorite as well as the handsome rapper. He has a clean smooth image thats so swagged he doesnt have one corny bone in his body.
