Did Jay have an actual hit record before Vol. 2?
No. No he didn’t.
^^
u r simple, aint no nigga single was certified gold, thats a hit
November 16th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
whats it all worth can’t take it with you under this earth (c) Nas.
real talk though… if you can’t kick back at 55 and break bread with niggas you came up with reminiscing on old times, the groupies you ran through, that’s no fun. Jay prolly go Tah Tah and bleek on speed dial. I know them niggas tired of camel.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
They were responsible for a large share of the work on Vol. 2.
^^
They did two tracks each. Nigga What Nigga Who wasnt released as a single until after the album had been certified 2x platinum, the Foxy collab is considered by most to be the weakest track on the album. And being that he was already being crucified by hiphop puriest for his Casio work, Swizz owes as much to Jay, as Jay does Swizz. And Money Cash Hoes, while a popular “street” single, was never a hit, and “Coming of Age” 2, while incredible, is the definition of album cut.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Jay’s gonna find himself at 50+ at Chris Martins crib feeling sick and outta place. Like damn I miss my niggas.

Murs is wack… i mean … dude is hella wack …
slug > murs …
^ Nah but have you heard his collab album with 9th wonder? Murray’s Revenge? That shit was a good album.
http://www.clevver.com/music/video/32940/murs-murrays-revenge.html
Murs before 2007 > After 2007 when he got into the whole hipster douchebag L.A scene and made that awful Murs for President album. Evidence remains as one of the only true rappers trying to remain loyal to his underground roots.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Swizz did If I Should Die, Comin of Age 2 and Money Cas Hoes on Vol2.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

^^
Nope, I’m right.
Timbo - Nigga What, Nigga Who and Paper Chase
Swizz - Money Cash Hoes and Coming of Age 2
If I’m wrong, please enlighten me. I notice you don’t have quite as much to type when presented with facts as opposed to emotion, lol. You’re no better than the blind stans.

And to prove my non-standom…
None of the above songs were hits in the traditional sense (Billboard) except Aint No Nigga, which I already acknowledged was propelled by the Foxy verse (she had an insane buzz at the time).
___________________________________________________________
those songs were on the billboard…not mega hits but certainly enough to make the album go platinum….So you saying you never heard those songs or the radio or seen the video on MTV or BET?

Little Known Producer Fact:
Timbaland spent the better part of 2 hours laying the hand claps on “When It’s Hot” for Vol 3 to get them just right. Audibly most people can’t tell what’s unique about the clap patern.

going gold on an independent label and gaining enough attention from a major label is a hit, just think that album that u are sh!tting on was the launching board for his def jam deal and the foundation for the 500 mil plus he has now, but im sure u dont see that, because of the way u think…..no shots but i pray for u

Who gives a fuck if jays early albums didn’t have super hit songs on em. You can’t deny reasonable doubt was a classic album.
Being a classic and having a cult following > Being a hit song/album and being forgotten within 2 or 3 months.

November 16th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Oh but jay did have his few hit songs that established his place in pop culture. IMO having a classic album is the best cuz you know for sure at some point in an artists career they did something great. It’s kind of like Kanye. Kanye was in a similar situation where his first two albums had their following but then Ye comes with Graduation and starts making songs meant to be on the charts and yeah I guess these dudes just thought they had potential in making hit records and at the end of day knew how they can use their talents to gain a lot of money.
Graduation = HOV’s VOL 2 as in the album that has an artist go from somewhat known to mainstream famous.
