OHF! Em dropped his album and vanished for months. Jay is all over the fucking place. Dude is everywhere right now. Imagine if Em woulda pushed his album a little bit. Dude just doesn’t want to be in the limelight like that.
^ ^ but Em has NEVER wanted the limelight like that. Don’t use that as an excuse. The fact is, the industry has completely changed. Em will never put up the numbers he used to in today’s sales climate. And he got too used to pulling huge numbers without trying very hard from a marketing/publicity perspective. Em never was the guy to appear on 20 talk shows like that. He would drop his music, tour, and that’s it. Only thing different this time is he didn’t really tour at all, which was a mistake. I think if he was touring and doing radio interviews city by city like 50 is doing now, his numbers might be a bit better than they are.
50 probably will do around 400K. It’s a tough market out here. Those are phenomenal numbers for this market. Jay did a much bigger setup for BP3 than 50 has been able to pull off for BSID, hence his first week will likely be lower than Jay’s.

^ ^ while this is true, jay was responding to a direct question about 50. he could have said “no comment”, but 50 has been coming at Kanye for 2 years now, leading up to Graduation utterly smashing Curtis on the charts and on and off for 2 years afterwards. And 50 has had little sideways comments about Jay before that (Jay didn’t handle the Cam beef, so I had to, etc), not to mention 50 signing a bunch of people who had some problems with Jay in the past, big or small (Mobb, Mase and to a lesser extent MOP, who were essentially disgruntled ex-Roc artists at the time)

The best way I can put it is like this, 50 is like a conservative republican, a Rush Limbaugh per se…he panders to his demographic. They in turn spread his msg faster than he could via blogs, websites and conversations. So the folklore moves on. Jay has already won, bc he doesn’t need to respond. He’s WINNING.
When you’re winning, you don’t care about who got next.
And to give y’all an accurate gauge of the sales, 50 will do about 220-280 first week. Its a TOUGH market out there and his BDS spins aren’t that good right now. So his WHITE/POP (no shots) fan base will help him first week. Bc have the cats in here talking abt the album ALREADY have it, which means they’re not PURCHASING it!

PS..his album comes out on the same day at John Mayer’s “Battle Studies”, so don’t be surprise if JM has the #1 album in the country that week. But see Interscope is smart, thats why that had the soft launch this week via iTunes and the physical will be in stores Nov 17th. They are aware JM and Norah Jones is dropping that day..both HEAVY WEIGHTS!! who’s last albums sold (John Mayer 2.4m) and (Norah Jones 1.58m) respectively
