J. Cole talks to Nick Huff of Hard Knock TV about his thoughts on the Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel situation, being compared to Drake on MuchMusic TV in Toronto, and what impact mixtapes have in an artists career.
“It’s nothing you can do about those comparisons… I know it comes from a place where people don’t really know. It’s one of those things where they think “this guy reminds me of XYZ” because that’s the hot guy that’s on their mind right now. I remember a couple of years ago, people was saying Lupe cuz that’s who they was hearing about.
Once people get into the music, it’s like “oh wait, no he’s not.” But like I always say, he’s talented so it’s not a diss really. It’s all good. But the Toronto joint was crazy, ha. She said it, I was like [-__-]. She didn’t mean anything by it. [Interviewer: It's kinda funny how the blogs ran with it.] Yeah, it was a real expression… I can’t believe they caught that on-camera.”
