THAT is Shawn Carter’s legacy as a “label head”… I wish somebody would stop trying to give him credit for shit he didn’t do. Shawn Carter wasn’t some type of mastermind or label guru; He was an artist concerned with his own legacy. Do we really need to look at how bad Teena Marie, Memphis Bleek, and the Young Gunz flopped AFTER Shawn became President of Def Jam? Lets not talk about Leslies brick and Sigel’s abomination of a third album.

Stans tend to try to give him credit for Kanye, William, and Jeezy, when Kanye admitted Dame was responsible for his initial success, William already was poppin with “Hustlin,” and “Trap or Die” with Drama, the “Snowman” persona, and the Boyz In Da Hood project propelled Jeezy into the spotlight– Shawn just dropped a verse on their projects and took credit for their success.

Say what you will, but 50 didn’t do anything else but actually take the artist he found and make them successful; People are quick to point out the Mobb Deep Situation and the MOP situation, but the Mobb were given a lot of opportunities to be successful. MOP is still up-in-the-air; Even Dame said they never bothered to turn in a record when they were on Roc-A-Fella. All I remember from them were the songs on the GRODT ST and Wartime (which was dope), and then they just stopped making music.

Anyway, my point is is that if we simply look at the artists INTRODUCED by each person (Shawn, 50), we can see the difference in their track records. 50 broke more no name artists than Shawn could ever hope to, and thats the truth of the matter.

Your joking, right? So your telling me that EVERY artist 50 debuted (Banks, Buck, Jayceon, Yayo) can all achieve gold or platinum success, and somehow be considered a failure?
