I haven’t listened to the interview yet, so I’m reserving judgment, but from what I heard in the song and what I’ve read, I pretty much agree with what Gooch said in Lite.

On top of all this, Beanie signed with Dame Dash Music Group back in 2004. In a wikipedia entry on Beanie, it says he made the decision to sign with Dame over Jay because he’d never spent time around Jay on and off day. First of all, the video was whack. I mean for a classic song that’s banging out of every stereo in NYC right now, to come back with a video this flat is just lame. Missed opportunity, Hype.

Second of all, Beans’ best verse is on Somehow Someway — all the promise of his hardrock style mixed with pure street poetry. God, that verse kills me every time. But Jay schooled him back on Momma Loves Me, “Beans I ain’t tryin to change you – just give you some game, to make the transition, from the street to the fame.” In other words, it takes more than just having talent to make it under the bright lights. One of those things is keeping your ass out of the joint. I guess that’s easier said than done for some cats. SMDH.

Thirdly, there’s no way, by any measure, Beans could ever be considered better than Jay. At any time. Please.

Last, Beans’ dis track is a complete disaster. What you’re supposed to do if you got a beef with a dude is settle it with your rhymes. Don’t go talking for three minutes trying to make your case after spitting a couple average verses. AHNT. Dude sounded kinda like Young Buck on that tape. If you want to crush another rapper [||] do it with your rhymes, like on Ether. Otherwise, the only battle that you’re winning is undermining the integrity of your mic skills.
