Video: Joe Budden Talks Jay-Z/Pump It Up Battle
Joe says he met with Jay-Z to discuss a possible Pump It Up Remix and Jay responded with an outrageous dollar amount. “Basically a no, a fuck-outta-here type of no.” Two weeks after they met, Jay released that classic freestyle over it.
“I was really mad about it… The freestyle was like a slap in the face, you just wanted to charge me X amount of dollars for a remix.. then you turn around and take the beat [for free.] It was almost like gloating, showboating… so I said you know what, he didn’t want to do the remix, I’m taking my beat back.”
Then he talks about how Just Blaze made the Pump It Up beat for Hov, Freeway & Beans and they passed on it.
