I had no interest in hearing Warning Shots 2, but I heard it was fucking awful.

I remember when I first heard Sai my freshman year at HU in ’01, thought he might be the next Nas with a splicing of Tupac.

Now he’s just looking like another mixtape rapper that couldnt produce in the majors.

Not long afte their dispute over So Icy (and whatever else) Gucci went back to his hotel with a female. This female was a BME (it its BME right? I don’t really keep up with retarded gang shit, anyway…) “spy” sent to get Gucci set up.

Four niggas ran up in Gucci’s room to presumably kill him. Didnt happen. Gucci went Neo post-Morpheus ,(c) me, on them niggas. Left one dead. Said dead mans body was found three days later behind a middle school. Charges were dropped against LaFlare due to lack of evidence.

I was sold on Sai with the original Warning Shots… convinced Sai was the next best thing, waaayy back in.. 05? Thorough cat with a fuckin brain. And he really had the potential too…Atlantic fucked him and JBlaze’s Fort Knocks label by shelving GSNT for so long… and then Sai started actin a fool.
Favourite things, stocking cap, true story, Shok TV, Pop Quiz, Whoo Kd Freestyle even C’mon Baby still get spin….
BUT WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED?

It was about to start. The mixtapes were buzzing and Wanksta dropped in the summer. But Cam at that point had the Diplomats mixtapes dropping at the same frequency, and arguably the same level of quality. Not to mention he had an actual (well received) album that produced two huge radio records.

Naw, quiet as kept, Ja actually started falling off before 50 really started the ether. Back Down and the assorted mixtape disses were 50 kicking away the chair. Jeffery had already put the noose around his neck with that Mary joint and the Bobby Brown single, and the Grease video with Ashanti. The Down Ass Chick remix was probably the only reason the backlash didnt start sooner.

I can see an argument for Nas though. Cam replacing him after the SummerJam fiasco pretty much tells you they were the top 2. I was a Jay stan at the time, but looking back, Ether really did some fucking damage.

@ B-Ease, If you’re counting mixtape buzz, (no surprise forthcoming), I didn’t know any of that.. mixtape buzz, to me, means absolutely nothing, buncha ECW rappers doing allegedly “great” shit but can’t make a broader audience feel their stuff without a 50-Mania style hypemachine behind it.

Ja had records going throughout the majority of 2002, Cam had a few records, but NaS was effing everywhere. But, I hear what you’re saying, I wasn’t on rap blogs back then (a simpler time, *tear*), or up on the mixtapes (already addressed), and I’ve already gone on record as saying I’m more of a pop rap guy, stuff has to reach a certain point of exposure for me to get it.

Sooo, my mainstreamy induststry opinion is that it was those 3, definitely NaS and Cam as 1-2, with Rule a strong 3rd. The Last Temptation fuckery wasn’t until later on in 02, october, november, around then–and even then, I knew those Murder Inc boys were totally gassed.
