AmpGeez a.k.a I’m A Jerk Says:
That being said, he has some severe character flaws that I’ve begun to see more clearly as I’ve gotten older. I don’t like fake people. People who are disingenuous. Can’t stand it.
^^^
Amp i understand u are the dvils advocate and i know u listen to quite a bit of hov, but my thing is u say the flaws the man has (we all have some) but when i bring up actual things this man has tried to do the community and when i bring up his business practices of nvr stealing money from an artist or using a contract to his advantage u say nuthing…Now if u want to bring up the Roc, Dame has admitted that hov just wanted the masters of his first album and the roc name was theirs and they did not want to trade ok, fine…so la reid as a business man know he had to keep hov on so he offered hov all his masters and hov says yes ill take it, whats wrong with that, now roc a wear, dame accepted an amount as a payoff and even bragged that he got a nice check and laughed how that clothing line was going to be over..hov waited and rcvd even more, whats wrong with that?? Jay did some of the best rapping for ten years and he dame and biggs got rich beyond anyones belief, and than jay said ok, i want to try sumthin new…wtf is wrong with that my dude

But you know what Iceberg Slim, you’re entitled to your views & opinions and I’m entitled to mine.
No shots or hard feelings b.
^^^
I know this, i feel u know the history more than sum other commenters but i do feel at times for our culture hov gets a bad rap, for been successful, and its like that in our hoods also, if one dude does good and moves up the ladder the majority talk shtit about ole boy or start rumours instead of following his footsteps or asking dude how can i get on….Jay reached out to jada kiss signed him to rocafella and jada just dropped a very successful album, hov traded musiq sould child (whens the last time u heard about him) for fabolous and fabos doing well, he let go of the past and offered nas a very nice deal to come to def jam and let nas dropped wuteva he wanted and support the art and the title regardless on the public outcry…but still jay is all of whats wrong with hip hop to many

>>> i agree. you missed my point, though. i like seinfeld and my girl hates the show. that doesn’t take away from it’s viability to me. i’m saying em never crossed over to urban markets like jay. to be among the elite i feel he needs that mass crossover. he needs more (diverse) people

I’m tired of being white trash, broke and always poor
Tired of taking pop bottles back to the party store
I’m tired of not having a phone
Tired of not having a home to have one in if I did have it on
Tired of not driving a BM
Tired of not working at GM, tired of wanting to be him
Tired of not sleeping without a Tylenol PM
Tired of not performing in a packed coliseum
Tired of not being on tour
Tired of fucking the same blonde whore after work
in the back of a Contour
I’m tired of faking knots with a stack of ones
Having a lack of funds and resorting back to guns
Tired of being stared at
I’m tired of wearing the same damn Nike Air hat
Tired of stepping in clubs wearing the same pair of Lugz
Tired of people saying they’re tired of hearing me rap about drugs
Tired of other rappers who ain’t bringin half the skill as me
saying they wasn’t feeling me on “Nobody’s As Ill As Me”
I’m tired of radio stations telling fibs

My 2 cents : Eminem is one of the most technically gifted/impressive emcees of all time. The Slim Shady LP has held up surprisingly well, The Marshall Mathers LP has not. Eminem Show was a bloated near masterpiece/classic, and Encore was a growth conceptually but a regression skill wise. Relapse sucked. So do 80% of his beats. That is all.

All Eyez On Me is a classic album.
Classic.
MATW has it’s low points, but it’s highs? Brilliance…
Now I’m lost and I’m weary, so many tears
I’m suicidal, so don’t stand near me
My every move is a calculated step, to bring me closer
to embrace an early death, now there’s nothin left
There was no mercy on the streets, I couldn’t rest
I’m barely standin, bout to go to pieces, screamin peace
And though my soul was deleted, I couldn’t see it
I had my mind full of demons tryin to break free
They planted seeds and they hatched, sparkin the flame
inside my brain like a match, such a dirty game
No memories, just a misery
Paintin a picture of my enemies killin me, in my sleep
Will I survive til the mo’nin, to see the sun
Please Lord forgive me for my sins, cause here I come…

I found Dre’s work on the project kind of listless and uninspired. And while 3am was dope, the album never again reaches that height. The key to his early maniac records was the humor, which stood out in even his most vile tracks. Now it just seems vile for the sake of being vile. I’d agree that All Eyez is a classic based on influence alone, but I also believe that an album doesn’t have to be a flawless masterpiece (which All Eyez clearly isn’t) to attain the classic tag.

See, i thought Dre’s work saved some of the albums weaker moments.
While you’re right about the album peaking right away with 3 AM, I thought there was enough lyrically to keep it entertaining throughout.
I also found some of the shock shit kinda regressive, but the moments where Em allowed himself to get really dark are inspired.
Relapse 2 should knock Relapse off the top Hip-Hop albums of 09, but R4lapse set the stage.

I will never understand the relapse hate…and this is coming from a guy who fucking hated “we made you” when it first came out, than 3 am dropped and I knew em still had it, and looking back at we made you in the CONTEXT OF THE ALBUM, it’s fucking perfect.
MMLP>Relapse>Slim Shady>Eminem Show>Encore imho
I’m half white/half latino, and i grew up in crackerville U.S.A., 45 miles outside of detroit. honestly when em first dropped I almost couldnt stand that motherfucker after six months because he was being hyped up as the greatest white musician (not rapper, “ARTIST”) since fucking kurt cobain, shit was disgusting. To make it worse I just couldn’t stand the hypocrisy of him being the most popular rapper on the planet for a period, if that was a black dude rapping about raping his mom and killing his girlfriend the mainstream would’ve never heard of eminem regardless of talent….anyway I agree with most people that Em is one of the greatest technical rappers of all time, but him dissapearing for a couple years to get focused made me beyond happy, because he came back and dropped the second best album of his career and it got universally “meh’d” because the great white hope hype had severely died down.
If you take time to listen to relapse, it tells an extremely well thought out story about his entire career and drug addiction/rehabilitation, its pretty amazing actually, how it got worse reviews than an album of straight fart jokes and triumph the insult dog disses is beyond me (and yes, i understood the “concept” behind encore, what blows my mind is how the defenders of that album don’t get relapse….)

But Pac was one of the rappers I related to alot. Dude was like a Big Brother, schooling niggas on the evils, telling cats to watch out for fake bitches and fake homies, buiilding up women’s self esteem as well as demanding guys respect them. Dropping real shit with such conviction, he had niggas motivated for real.
Pac coulda done alot of good if he hadn’t been killed.

^^^^this………will happen someday i hope. and yeah i agree about fiddy, i actually thought the massacre was on the same level as grodt with the exception of a few tracks, so yeah it wasn’t consistent but he was fucking with some crazy beats. somewhere along the line he just got so caught up in being the richest rapper around he forgot to show a little vulnerability. it’s the reason so many people fuck with wayne even tho he puts out a lot of wack tracks, at least hes trying and letting people see his faults…..now when you take this to an illogical conclusion and release an entire album nearly full of faults *ahem, curtis* thats a different story, but he needs to get more introspective and let down his shield a little bit, and judging from the terminator bisd cover i anticipate another album full of bullshit. lately its like hes still saying hes the best but you can tell even he doesnt believe it….he should harness that self doubt and really show his soul a little bit, and once again judging from that new cover it just seems like hes trying wayyyy too hard.
but btw, that video of him going to the hospital after hearing fat joe’s new album was fucking hillarious

Always been one of pacs best verse
Penetentiaries is packed with promise makes
Never realize the precious time the bitch niggaz is wastin
Instutionalized I lived my life a product made to crumble
But too hardened for a smile, we’re too crazy to be humble, we ballin
Catch me father please, cause I’m fallin, in the liquor store
That’s the Hennessee I hear ya callin, can I get some more?
Hail til I reach Hell, I ain’t scared
Mama checkin in my bedroom; I ain’t there
I got a head with no screws in it, what can I do
One life to live but I got nuttin to lose, just me and you
on a one way trip to prison, sellin drugs
We all wrapped up in this livin, life as Thugs
To my homeboys in Quentin Max, doin they bid
Raise hell to this real shit, and feel this
When they turn out the lights, I’ll be down in the dark
Thuggin eternal through my heart, now Hail Mary nigga

They say pussy and paper is poetry power and pistols
Plottin on murderin motherfuckers ‘fore they get you
Picturin pitiful punk niggaz coppin pleas
Puffin weed as I position myself to clock G’s
My enemies scatter in suicidal situations
Never to witness the wicked shit that they was facin
Pockets is packed with presidents, pursue your riches
Evadin the playa hatin tricks, while hittin switches
Bitches is bad-mouth, cause brawlin motherfuckers is bold
But y’all some hoes, the game should be sewed
I’m sick of psychotic society somebody save me
Addicted to drama so even mama couldn’t raise me
Even the preacher and all my teachers couldn’t reach me
I run in the streets and puffin weed wit my peeps
I’m duckin the cop, I hit the weed as I’m clutchin my glock
Niggaz is hot when I hit the block, what if I die tonight
Pac had them P’s poppin lol

Fuck You! very much you showed me the worst kind of pain

Why is we so poor?, why is life so ugly?

Esp. when drinking
Listen - that was my hurt in my heart talkin, along with the truth
I would thirst often as a youth cause of you the person
Moms nursin self-esteem issues
Round the house it’s hard to find a clean tissue, minus her tears
To rewind this time I promise I minused my years
to the day to take the pain away
Seemed sunny outside, always rained on Jay
Pop you my umbrella, come help your son with the weather
Soon we come together like man and man and build
Play space, cards face up, I’ve come to deal
In order to get right we gotta deal with this wrong
And the pain I felt all my life you feel in the song
Your lack of warmth left a chill in the morn’
Your lack of love, left me loveless, and I’m of your breath
I’m your mind body and soul, your heart, your flesh
Your alcohol, your smoke, in results I’m a mess
And dad, still I love you no less dad
Hope you didn’t think success would make me less mad
But not mad, just dissapointed - we wasted years
I swear to God, may you take me away from here
If you taught me anything
The one thing you taught me is to face my fears, coward
How could you let me grow without you?
Grind in this rap game, take dough without you?
Wear my Pro Keds close to the sole/soul without you?
Family pictures pose without you - WHY?! ..
Why shouldn’t I be mad?
Monster’s parents seperated, Monster had his dad
These parents had they problems, he still came to the pad
He bought ‘em new bikes, imagine what that felt like
Used to have to butt my head to go to sleep at night

And Beans verse was nasty also…u see drake this is what i was raised on
Simple - harsh life, harsh verses
“I can’t believe the mouth of this prick
He said put his mouth on his dick,”
I know we gotta talk bout that, I know you salt bout that
You on the tip like I don’t like you
I got four kids, three baby mothers, I’m just like you
Sometimes I wanted to just fight you, shit
Swing on you - think I’m playin man, I’m just like you
I was a kid with a puzzle
with missing pieces tryin to put it together dawg, you put it together
You made me have to foot through the weather
in the storm with no raincoat
I don’t only speak on me, I speak upon the kids in the same boat
Ridin the same water, same situation
Same fatherless daughter - I hate you, that’s in your mind
Don’t get caught up in the rhyme
You think I dissed you now, that I don’t miss you now
Don’t be a hater now, be glad I made it now
I know I probably rubbed you the wrong way
But fuck what the song say, for the record, check it
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Now on release.
How will i live?
Will god forgive me for all the dirt a nigga did?
To feed kids.
One life to live.
It’s so hard to be positive
When niggas shootin at your crib.
Mama, i’m still thuggin’
The world is a war zone.
My homies is inmates
And most of them dead wrong
Full grown, finally a man
Just schemin on ways to put some green inside the palms
Of my empty hands.
Just picture me rollin’.
Flossin a benz on rims that isn’t stolen.
My dreams is censored.
My hopes are gone.
I’m like a fiend that finally see when all the dope is gone.
My nerves is wrecked.
Heart beatin’ and my hands is swollen.
Thinkin of the g’s i’ll be holdin.
Picture me rollin.
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:02 pm
But dog I can’t see it at all, shit
We never kicked it at all
We never pitched or kicked at a ball
dog, you never taught me shit
how to fight, ride a bike, fix a flat
none of that sorts of shit
Nigga you was an abusive pops
fuck you left me out to dry, stuck
gotta teach news to box
gotta teach news to bop
and that aint the half of it man
I gotta teach news to block
It’s about time we have a father to son (nigga sit down)
sit down let me tell you ’bout your fatherless sons
how they grew to be men and father they sons
father they daughters
nigga, you left a fatherless daughter
I never follow your orders
nigga you make me sick
pussy you could….ooh
how you gonna leave these memories in the back of my mind
I can see it clear as day you smackin my mom
I ‘member that day you showed me that gat, that 9
put it in my palm when I was young
and said that would be mine, you turned me out
the reason why I hit the block
reason why I tried to hit them cops
reason why I started hittin shots
reason why I started gettin licked
and drinkin syrup and skippin court
ginger bread man never think of gettin caught
look at your hand man damn you fought
nigga you left my mom
left us with no good-bye’s
you left us out to dry
you left us with no letters, notes, (nothing!) no replies
no digits numbers was unlisted
you left us with some of my loneliest night
nigga some of my hungriest nights
shit, one of the reasons for years (shit embarrasin)
damn we used to think money was white
yeah you gave us life like, fruit from a plant
we aint eat right from them foods from them stamps
and to think you was my pop,
man i gotta stop shit

Come home with me, to the streets, the slums, the ghetto
That’s home to me, everynight my girl crying come home to me
No, come home with me where there so many cops
The block is boiling and the food is spoiled
But that pot with the rock is boiling
Same pot mommy cook with, left the oil in
Come on home with me, where these bitches is frauds
Niggas don’t listen to broads, they having you sitting in court
for kids that ain’t yours, come home with me
Where everyday the glocks go pop
Where the front doors broke and them locks don’t lock
Come home with me, dog where the beef is seeking
Kids don’t trick or treat, they get tricked for treating
Come home with me, where the pistol squeezing
Niggas twist they cheekin, ripped to pieces
Our kids get even, come home with me
Don’t leave your condoms behind
cause them bitches leave there martians behind
Pray to god that I’m fine, come on home with me
Come on zone with me, come on walk through this cold city
Where these kids need food
niggas need guidance and bitches need roofs
Come on home with me, where niggas living off they last bucks
Phone is off, rent is backed up
Come on home with me, niggas strap up
Hit the street gats up, clack up and get they money back up
Come on home with me, every block got a crack in it
Every hallway got a nigga with some crack in it
Don’t get trapped in it

See I was — born in sewage, born to make bomb music
Flow tight like I was born Jewish
Used the streets as a conduit - I kept arms
38 longs inside my mom’s Buick
At any given moment Shawn could lose it, be on the news
Iron cuffs - arms through it; or stuffed with embalming fluid
Shit, I’m goin through it - mom dukes too
Tears streamin down her pretty face, she got her palms to it
My life is gettin too wild
I need to bring some sorta calm to it
Bout to lose it; voices screamin “Don’t do it!”
It’s like ‘93, ‘94, bout the year
that Big and Mach dropped; and “Illmatic” rocked
outta every rag drop, and the West had it locked
Everybody doin ‘em, I’m still scratchin on the block
like “Damn; I’ma be a failure”
Surrounded by thugs, drugs, and drug - paraphenalia
Cops courts, and their thoughts is to derail us
Three time felons in shorts with jealous thoughts
Tryin figure where your mil is, guesstimate the weight you sellin
So they can send shots straight to your melon; wait!
It gets worse, baby momma water burst
Baby came out stillborn, still I gotta move on
Though my heart still torn, life gone from her womb
Don’t worry, if it was meant to be, it’ll be — soon

Dear ma, I’m in the cell, lonely as hell
Writin this scribe, thinkin bout how you must feel inside
You tried to teach me better, but I refused to grow
God damn I ain’t the young man that you used to know
You said the street claim lives, but I wanted things like
bling bling ice I was wrong in hindsight
Shit we grew apart, try to blame it on your new spouse
I know it hurt like hell the day you kicked me out
But your house is your house, I ain’t respect the rules
I brought crack past your door, beefed with rival crews
And who wants to be the mother of a son who sold drugs
Co-workers saw me on the corner slingin Larry Love
Meanwhile, you workin hard like, two or three jobs
Tryin to feed me and my siblings, makin an honest livin
Who am I kiddin I, call myself easin the load
I made the load heavy, I need money for commissary
Try to understand, please

Surrounded by thugs, drugs, and drug - paraphenalia
Cops courts, and their thoughts is to derail us
Three time felons in shorts with jealous thoughts
Tryin figure where your mil is, guesstimate the weight you sellin
So they can send shots straight to your melon; wait!
It gets worse, baby momma water burst
Baby came out stillborn, still I gotta move on
Though my heart still torn, life gone from her womb
Don’t worry, if it was meant to be, it’ll be

Real talk, i had a very dark period in my life and this verse used to be on repeat for weeks……im bout to lose it, voice’s screamin dont do it

Home from Elmira, got a little brighter
I’ma keep it real still a schemer and conniver
Recognize the struggle livin like a thug do
Hatred in my heart but inside I love you
See no matter what I will extend my arms to hug you
Knowing I am just like you, I am like the double
All I wanna know is how you pound me down
Yo this shit is real and you really jerked me around
But any way I am getting paid wit puff now
Bout to cop you a house I can send you some stuff now
So many levels jail take you
I appreciate jail because it made me appreciate you
I’ve been through fire and brimstone
Used to be diplomas in jail, now I cop the gem stone
I remembered when you rushed me
The time you said you should of flushed me
I forgive you ma trust me
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:25 pm

This is the only time I am going to do this …
I may repost this on monday
A rapper explain his art is a little like magician explaining his tricks
The abstractness in my rapping is done to an extent on purpose
I am a little like doom , talib or common (who is one of my idols) ….
I don’t pick as abstract beats as doom does / makes … Cause I don’t think I need too… I do not like that everybody color within the lines in this era …nobody does anything diff in rap…everybody looks , talks , acts the same…
While I purposely rap “weird”
Rap is not a joke for me… I have an appreciation for the culture and a respect for its history
Time was an extent me trying to create some thing I feel was myself but could be enjoyed by others
I am working on a project that is striving towards a middle …weird enough to not feel like a slave to melody…but still some what accessible
Other artist and djs have given me my props and I feel that
Other artist understand me better then the “fan” can…where I am taking my art and what I am doing…
I think joe the poteinal to do great things and be a great artist
I didn’t make fight music out of anger …but because I respect joe as a rapper and want to give him something more traditional…to show I appreciate his opinions…even when he doesn’t enjoy a record
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 pm

The theme song to +The Sopranos+
plays in the key of life on my, mental piano
Got a strange way of seein life like
I’m Stevie Wonder with, beads under the doo-rag
Intuition is there even when my vision’s impaired, yeah
Knowin I can go, just switchin a spare
On the highway of life, nigga it’s sharp in my sight
Oh! Keen senses ever since I was a, teen on the benches
everytime somebody like Enus was mentioned
I would turn green, me, bein in the trenches
Him, livin adventureous not worryin about expenditures
I’m bravin temperatures below zero, no hero
No father figure, you gotta pardon a nigga
But I’m starvin my niggaz, and the weight loss in my figure
is startin to darken my heart, bout to get to my liver
Watch it my niggaz, I’m tryin to be calm but I’m gon’ get richer
through any means, with that thing that Malcolm palmed in the picture
Never read the Qu’ran or Islamic scriptures
Only psalms I read was on the arms of my niggaz
Tattooed so I carry on like I’m non-religious
Clap whoever stand between Shawn and figures
Niggaz, say it’s the dawn/Don but I’m superstitious
Shit is as dark as it’s been, nothin is goin as you predicted
I move with biscuits, stop the hearts of niggaz actin too suspicious
This is, food for thought, you do the dishes
October 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Since my date of birth
bought you nothing but hurt
play those video games
stole change from ya purse
Sat on the cold court bench
’til I was arraigned in ya skirt
Saw the pain in ya face
through you maintained a smirk
All you did was motivate me
don’t let ‘em hold you back
What I do I turned around
and I sold you crack
I was a bastard for that
still I’m drowning in shame
Just remember one thing now
you’re not to blame
You was newly seperated
tryin’ to escape ya world
and through my thirst
I didn’t help you
I just made things worse
I hated me and everybody
that created crack
Had me thinkin’
the newest kicks and the latest gat
Still haven’t apologized
so please play this back
while I try to come to terms
with such a heinous act
you know in more than one way
cocaine numbs the brain
All I did was think about
how the funds once came
then I ran across this memory
and it stung the brain
How can you ever destroy the beauty
from which one came
That’s a savage you’re the reason
why me and these beats make a marriage
why I rhyme above average and
I ain’t shit
Glad you got yourself together
no thanks to me
Strong and beautiful the way thangs should be
You must love me

We used to fight every night
but I never would suffer
just smile my big brother’s
tryna make me tougher
As we grew fussing and fighting continued
as I plundered through ya stuff
and snuck ya clothes to school
Got intense real intense
as we got older
Never believed it would lead
to be popped in one of ya shoulda
With my rings knew you had it
’cause you took too long
as Mickey, Andy, and the girl that bought it looked on
Huffin’ and puffin’ gun in my hand
told you step outside
Hoping you said no but you hurt my pride
made our way down the steps
maybe you thought it was just a threat
or maybe ya life was just that crazy
and you was beggin’ for death
try to justify this in my young mind
but ya drillin’ it
and my ego hurt combined
drove me berzerk
Saw the devil in your eyes
high off more than weed
confused I just closed
my young eyes and squeezed
What a sound
opened my eyes just in time
to see ya stumbling to the ground
Damn what the fuck I done now
runnin’ around in a circle
thinking I’m assed out
hot gun burnin’ my waist
ran straight to Jazz’ house
Like a stranger damn I just shot my nigga
and ran off into the night as if it was not my nigga
Left the scene how could I go out that way
Still you asked to see me in the hospital ya next day
You must love me.

And until I move this weight it’s gon’ keep me to the floor
Travel with me through my deep thoughts
Y’all can’t learn Jigga by the shit y’all be readin in The Source;
It’s deeper of course
Follow the life of this reckless minor
At sixteen in the 600, unlicensed driver
Playin, cops and robbers, like shots can’t stop us
Flippin a bird to the choppers (fuck you coppers)
Buck-thirty on the turns
Reckless abandon, when I’m standin on this pedal
Hand on my metal, minus all this time they tryin to give me
Lord help me, all I ever wanted to be was wealthy or
somebody to tell me that they felt me
I tried to play the hand you dealt me
but you gave me five funnies an’ shit
I was hungry I need menage money
Nothin less than a 520; and with that said

Yo; I come through, gettin money, sittin on twenties
Niggaz throwin me shade, but ain’t shit sunny
Hot shells only thing niggaz could get from me
Cocktails thrown in your living room, KA-BOOM
I’m so confrontational;
they shoulda never let me go on probation yo
I’m a hustler; accept that..
no correctional facilities can correct that
I took a step back, I viewed myself, seen where my head was at
It’s where that dough is homey, gotta get that
Gotta get away, some try but head back
Uhh, street smart niggaz got left back
Some died, they left stacks
Me, I ball right, and on top of that I’m dog nice

October 3rd, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I saw an interview where Jay said he took some artistic licensee with that verse and was speaking in a general way about all the black mother’s he sold crack to. But he coulda been cleaning that up for his mother’s sake. At any rate, I tend to believe Hov’s songs where he really goes in. That’s been hisa appeal from day one, a real life hustler being able to fully articulate that lifestyle on wax.
.jay got a hand full of songs that he talks about real shit….nas got catalogs worth…FOH
======================================
I’m not even gonna front. Jay’s got some powerful shit. But songs like “You Must Love Me” & “Soon You’ll Understand” are few & far between. His catalog is based on the shit he’s generally known for. Braggadocios party fare. His overall body of work is full of flashy but ultimately empty bars.

When I get the time i’ll make a compilation of all Hov’s dark songs that you wanna say are few and far in btn… At least half his catalogue.. i’m not gonna make you a list now, sad part is both Iceberg and myself have asked ni99as to put up verses that come close to matching any of the verses up here.. I still don’t see none.. Convo got boring real quick.. lmao
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:01 pm
The only problem i have with hov now is his content. It feels like the majority of the time what he raps about now is everything he has accomplished. It’s like the song “Reminder” except all the time. Still one of the nicest though and as far as deep songs he definitely goes there way more than he gets credit for. Shit, his verses on IZZO were more introspective than the majority of rappers
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:11 pm
But you’re asking to find verses that don’t exist. Nas paints pictures and taps into the black experience. Nas does shit like this…
Anytime brothers can’t get jobs, then they rob
A man rather die than live on his knees and starve
Cops steady askin’ your man what happened
First he tell then he stop, like he not really rattin’
Guess he not really in that casket from a sawed-off
Listen, peep game from the brain of an all-star
The rain hurt niggaz bones who been shot
Metal pins in their leg, they walk with a limp-hop
The streets lie so you better be cautious
Your man’ll fry you plus, everybody talkin’
A vet, a General, don’t step where I walked in
Make your own path, be a legend in your skin
Make your own cash, don’t stress what I’m flossin’
Don’t expect more when you put in less work than all them
Queensbridge projects has taught him, and that’s for life
You heard me right, I got the block (When the block is hot)
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Word to Will, buried in his Fila suit and heavy chain
I wanna be iced-up nigga, bury me the same
I live for street glory and I die for ghetto fame
Respect all, fear none, my pride is everything
Initials in swimming pool floors, women lose draws
A true boss, never lose wars, got cheddar to floss
Guns under beds, mask and a flashlight
Living my life like everyday’s my last night
Alcoholic on toilets, I shit blood
Foreign cars, models and stars, life of a rich thug
Mama told me from weed, I would switch drugs
To cocaine and hit clubs and deep-dish dubs
How would she know unless she hit the clubs & got her mack-on
Back in the 60’s with an afro and her platforms
Bopping to the supremes, smoking joints
That’s cool, but I’ma live how I want
Gateways, marble floors, chandeliers
Jacuzzi’s, Gucci soap, throwing cash in the air
Though I, still feel broke with millions in the bank
And deals on the table, I focus to stay afloat
And just to think some would die to get with I got
They think its alot, the blink of an eye, you could get shot
Niggas is wolves, coming if you ruthless or not
But i be on point, put you in places where bodies rot
Never knew murder till I seen my man get popped
No blood soaking, laying there, eyes still open
I got a little closer, put my hand in his palm
He was looking right through me, Yo staring beyond
I wonder what he saw, the limos, movies and tours
Did he die in vain and represent for the cause
Now I put his name on everything I’m involved
And that’s the game, ya’ll can’t relate, fuck ya’ll (Ill Will)
Yo, hoes in my focus slow me, roll with the brokest homies
Cold and we hopeless lonelies, scolding my foes who phony
From blocks where coke can feed you and cops are over evil
They know some people who tell on felons who sold some diesel
Heroin and blow it ruins minds, knew a crew one time
‘89, they took work to Caroline and blew big time
In just two years, their crew disappeared
Snitches and bitches, smeared the paint on their pictures
Years back, I reminiscence and remember, sitting on wood benches
Gave me splinters, just a baby, nigga, thankful
When them killers came through, guns out, moving
I thank the ones who said shorty go home, we about to be shooting
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Nas verse is from HHID - 2006
This hov verse is from vol.3(98) they pretty much saying the same shit.. IMO hov goes harder.
Life’s a battle, mean streets eat you alive
Blocks’ll have you, tryin to maintain your course
through the potholes and gravel
Hot holes and what-have-you, tryin to clock dough
Foes tryin to pop shots through you by code
Pigs tryin to grab you and lock up your soul
Through the Hot Apple, nighttime shots crackle
(bucka bucka bucka) Fiends tryin to gaffle you
Not only cokeheads but the Feds in the Mercuray Topaz
after you, up the avenue
Tryin to give you big numbers, you got math to do
Tryin to make you miss summer, shit, that ain’t cool
I caught smaller cases tryin to get capital
Up against the wall, tryin to pass through
Ghost-like, hear the cries from the tortured souls
Most nights, I hold my toast tight, and it goes like
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Nah. Dude couldn’t even muster a decent album until his third try. I’ve been impressed by some of the bootleg versions of his unreleased tracks, and Makaveli is a classic. But All Eyez on me is the definition of hit and miss, and IMO, Me Against the World might be THE most overrrated album in hiphop history.
Ambitionz As A Ridah
Got My Mind Made Up
How Do You Want It
No More Pain
Life Goes On
Heartz Of Men
2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted
All Eyez On Me
Check Out Time
Picture Me Rollin
Can’t C Me
Wonder Why They Call You Bitch
Shorty Want To Be A Thug
Thug Passion
Seems like a hell of a lot more hits then misses

Y’all don’t know about my Biggie wars
Who you thought Kick In The Door was for?
But that’s my heart, y’all still trippin of this Jigga shit
Real niggas listen up and I’ma tell you how the whole thing start
Off top I brung Queens up from hard times
Rockin at the Fever, streets was all mine
It was my version of the blues, droppin our schools
The crack epidemic had rap representin new rules
So I, got in em shoes, tried em wore them
Wasn’t a perfect fit, so I couldn’t sport em
Young murderers ride, I knew all them
Jungle got shot, Will died, we was warring
I wrote it in my album
I was 18 when Lake seen the Island
And Lord held me down and
My surroundings started changing
I had a baby, I was making my rounds with AZ
Niggas started noticing my flow and was open when
The Golden Child closed em in with more style than them older men
Puff tried to start a label, Prince Rakeem had formed Wu-Tang
Snoop and Dre had a new thang
So Puff drove his new Range through Queensbridge Projects
He let me drive it, before Ready to Die hit
BIG and I hit blunts performing at the Arc
Next thing you knew, BIG blew and all the balling starts
He had Kim and his crew, I found Fox, only niggas in New York with number
one charts
BIG was ahead of his time, him and Raekwon my niggas
But dig it, they couldn’t get along
That’s when Ghostface said it on the Purple tape
Bad Boy biting Nas album cover , wait
BIG told me Rae was stealing my slang
And Rae told me out in Shaolin BIG would do the same thing
But I borrowed from both them niggas
Jigga started to flow like us, but hit with ‘Ain’t No Niggas’
Had much Versace swagger
BIG admired the Brooklyn knight and took him in as Iceberg the rapper
Today don’t know nothing, about this bullshit
There’s more shit than wanting to be this King of New York shit

Was Curtis Mayfield actually living in the hood when he was making “Pusherman” or “Freddies Dead”? Was John Lennon being over in Nam the reasoning for his songs pushing for peace in a fight he wasn’t even in? So is Nas to be faulted for picking up on topics he finds relevant or Jay unable to tap into any sort of emotion but his own? I find your reasoning flawed

Rap became a version of Malcom and Martin
Rest In Peace Will, Queensbridge live on
There’s some ghetto secrets I can’t rhyme in this song
There’s some missing pieces I had to leave out
I had lot trust for Steve Stoute
At some point till I got to know him
We old friends, but what’s loyal?
Puff soaked Interscope offices
With champagne bottles on Steve, and Steve thought the drama is on me
Cause previously it would have been, against whoever
Friends forever
However, I learn, with some niggas it’s all business
But I’m a street dude with morals
To diss niggas with Jigga too much, he used to say Jay wanted my spot
I laughed, stayed home, never hung a lot
A quiet man who used to be alone planning
Baby moms thought I was too quiet, couldn’t stand it
She hit the streets, later on she hittin the sheets
With a rapper who wanted me on his songs, thinking he strong
I taught her how to watch for cars that might follow
Tauht her street shit that I know
Her weakness was shine yo
But that’s her, I ain’t mad baby, it made me stronger
Now I get my paper longer
Illmatic I was boss
It Was Written I flossed
One of the most creative LPs ever to hit stores
In The Firm I learned I Am Nastradamus
QB’s Finest, Oochie Wally, faced more problems
I gave it all up so I can chill at home with mama
She was getting old and sick so I stayed beside her
We had the best times, she asked would I make more songs
I told her not till I see her health get more strong
In the middle of that, Jay tried to sneak attack
Assasinate my character, degrade my hood
Cause in order for him to be the Don, Nas had to go
The Gam-B-I-N-O rules I understood
What you want, see, I already had
The Gift and The Curse? Fuck that shit, the first shall be last
I’m the man’s man, a rapper’s rapper
G-O-D S-O-N, they’ll be none after
I was Scarface, Jay was Manolo
It hurt me when I had to kill him and his whole squad for dolo
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Those two verses from “Last Real Nigga Alive” are some of the realist shit Nas ever spit.
“Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?
Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he’s Puffy”
Ask Dame if Jay took those words to heart
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:28 pm
the 2nd verse you put up is long but this is basically what he was tryna say:
Nigga see you in the street, pretend to be friendly
But I know any type of success breeds envy
I know in the back of your mind your conjuring ways to hem me
Leave my friends in a circle pouring out Henny
But G’s is heaven bound so how I’m gon’ receive
Anything y’all pour to the ground next time throw it up
And ain’t nothing changed so even in my afterlife I sow it up
Dont grieve for me my art remains
like a dart from the speaker to your heart
Spiritually through the portal now my words as a mortal
Plan to leave without a fight I plant a seed I give life
Though I can’t see past the girls greed to call her wife
Next time your thinking heist better be precise
Cause I’m fully prepared. One of us is gon’ leave here
I have no regrets even though I wanna see growth
My godsons Boogie, Sonny and Rimo
*feel the wordplay*

Ambitionz As A Ridah
Got My Mind Made Up
How Do You Want It
No More Pain
Life Goes On
Heartz Of Men
2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted
All Eyez On Me
Check Out Time
Picture Me Rollin
Can’t C Me
Wonder Why They Call You Bitch
Shorty Want To Be A Thug
Thug Passion
Seems like a hell of a lot more hits then misses
.lol
========================
There’s more hits then that too. East Coast cats don’t really fuck with disc 2 like that but that shit is just as well received as disc one in the Mid-West & the West Coast. As a whole AEOM is a West Coast Blueprint.
I’ve grown to enjoy the whole abum. One of the better executed double discs in Hip-Hop.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Can’t y’all, see that he’s fake, the rap version of TD jakes
Prophesizing on your CDs and tapes
Won’t break you a crumb of the little bit that he makes
And this is with whom you want to place your faith?
I put dollars on mine, ask Columbine
When the Twin Towers dropped, I was the first in line
Donating proceeds off every ticket sold
When I was out on the road, that’s how you judge Hov, no?
Ain’t I supposed to be absorbed myself?
Every time there’s a tragedy, I’m the first one to help
They call me this misogynist, but they don’t call me the dude
To take his dollars to give gifts at the projects
These dudes is all politics, depositing checks
they put in they pocket, all you get in return is a lot of lip
And y’all buy the shit, caught up in the hype
Cause the nigga wear a coofie, it don’t mean that he bright
Cause you don’t understand him, it don’t mean that he nice
It just means you don’t understand all the bullshit that he write
Is it “Oochie Wally Wally” or is it “One Mic”?
Is it “Black Girl Lost” or shorty owe you for ice?
I’ve been real all my life, they confuse it with deceit
Since I will not lose, they try to help him cheat
But I will not lose, for even in defeat
There’s a valuable lesson learned, so it evens it up for me
When the grass is cut, the snakes will show
I gotta thank the little homie Nas for that though
Saving me the hassle of speaking to half of these assholes
And I’ma let karma catch up to Jaz-O, whoa
I’m back before you had a chance to miss me
My mama can’t save you this time, niggas is history
Who you know flow vicious as me?
Yet so religiously, that’s why they call me Hov
I get the spoils cause the victor is me (me, nigga)
You’re an actor, you’re not who you’re depicted to be
The street dreamin, all y’all niggas living through me
I gave you life when niggas was forgetting you emcee
I’m a legend, you should take a picture with me
You should be happy to be in my presence, I should charge you a fee
I’m Big Dog, Glenn Rob, listen God you a flea
And the little homey Jungle is a garden to me
What’s the problem B? You not as hard as me
Nigga hard as we, nigga R O C, nigga
That’s why they follow me, they feel my pain and my agony, nigga
I won’t rest till you on one knee
You want war then it’s war’s gonna be, nigga
Until you on one knee, you want war then it’s war’s gonna be, nigga
*peace Amp, a real life friend is now here to occupy my attention* 1
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:38 pm
I’m capable of anything, my imagination can give me wings
To fly like doves over the streets watchin’ many things
Kids walkin’ home from school on drug blocks, missionaries pass out papers that read “Love God”
See faces, cases, judges& jurors, masons, lawyers and cops
I watch because every thugs face is my mirror
But this was one in particular
This kid he was the vintage stick em up pro
16 years old, did his jail sentence, nowhere to go
Every mornin calls his comrad to come and get him to smoke
He insane, already gone mad
Blames himself for his setbacks
Dangerous street corners where his sets at
Sling from dust to dawn, detectives act like they maniacs
Chasin’ him, his asthma’s flarin’
Smokin’ like a chimney, on Remy, of course he not carin’
He need a place to go to keep his mind expandin’
I give him a helpin’ hand, bring him out to Thugz Mansion
A place where death doesn’t reside, just thugs who collide
Not to start beef but spark trees, no cops rollin by
No policemen, no homicide, no chalk on the streets
No reason, for nobody’s momma to cry
See I’m a good guy, I’m tryin to stick around for my daughter
But if I should die, I know all of my albums support her
This whole year’s been crazy, asked the Holy Spirit to save me
Only difference from me and Ossie Davis, gray hair maybe
Cause I feel like my eyes saw too much sufferin
I’m just twenty-some-odd years, I done lost my mother
And I cried tears of joy, I know she smiles on her boy
I dream of you more, my love goes to Afeni Shakur
Cause like Ann Jones, she raised a ghetto king in a war
And just for that alone she shouldn’t feel no pain no more
Cause one day we’ll all be together, sippin heavnly champagne
What angels saw, with golden wings in Thugz Mansion
======================================
It’s all in the imagery.

^^
First off, Check Out Time sucks. No way around that. I was never a fan of Cant C Me, always came off as sound and fury signifying nothing. and though it’s now remembered fondly because of the vid and nature of the collab, Two of Americas most is kinda weak in reality, All Eyez on Mes version of I Love The Dough.
With that said, there’s at least 10 other songs on the album, which are a mix of pointless Outlawz collabs and misogynistic dreck like Whats Your Phone Number. And you can’t find many misses as off target as that shit sub as that song.
You Owe Me >>>>> Whats your Phone # and Scandolus

If Hov can admit defeat, why can’t y’all?
^^
I think Hov was specifically referring to the listener call in on Hot 97 where he lost the vote. He whined more than a couple times about the matchup being “unfair”.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:47 pm
And don’t get me wrong, AEOM is dope, real dope. But the filler ratio is high, especially compared to Life After Death.

================================
You can think what you want, he said even though he lost he still took it as a lesson and that made them even in his eyes.
A good way to rationalize taking an L.

And don’t get me wrong, AEOM is dope, real dope. But the filler ratio is high, especially compared to Life After Death.

You’ve never seen a gang of outta town niggas & bitches, drunk & high, bumping Disc 2 like it was the gospel. I think you’re being crazy critical cause I can’t think of any clear cut skips, honestly.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Wow…thats a first a person that didnt like Check Out Time and Can’t C Me. I get worried when a man talks about another mans misogony. Seems sort of…you know. lol
Regrets
Dead Presidents (first verse)
Lucky Me
You Must Love Me
A Week Ago (could be a story)
Hard Knock Life
Soon You’ll Understand
This Can’t Be Life
Daddy Where Have You Been
Anything
Momma Loves Me
Song Cry
December 4th
99 Problems
allure
Justify My Thug
Beach Chair
30 Something (haha just kidding)
Lost Ones
Minority Report
Sweet (if I remember correctly)
Forever Young
I think that’s a good list of songs where Jay is talking about something deep or at least attempting to.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Lost Tapes cemented 01 as the year of all years for Nas…man
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:55 pm
And to bring it back to the present, Jay has shown signs of regressing and has even said as much.
Nas hasn’t had any lost a step.
T.I. does Jay-Z better then jay-Z
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:57 pm
You can think what you want, he said even though he lost he still took it as a lesson and that made them even in his eyes.
A good way to rationalize taking an L.
^^
Right, but my point is that he wasn’t rationalizing taking an L for the entire battle, just that vote. He’s never admitted to losing the whole battle, the most recent interview I read he was still talking about Nas not using “facts”. He would never say he won, but overall, he doesn’t think Nas played fair so he’s also not going to consider it a L.
October 3rd, 2009 at 11:57 pm
A good way to rationalize taking an L.
^^
an L is an L
Nas > Jay-Z just for the simple fact that Nas’s music touches the soul

^^
Grow up nigga. I’m all for misogny when it’s hilarious (Em, NWA, Redman), or satiric or at least clever (Jay in his prime), but Pacs use of it on AEOM was just unimaginative and boring. Scandolous puts me to sleep.
October 4th, 2009 at 12:00 am
but overall, he doesn’t think Nas played fair so he’s also not going to consider it a L.
================================
Again, a good way to rationalize taking an L.
You’ve never heard Nas make any excuses of any kind.
Cause he knows he won.
Jay doesn’t display the same confidence.

===================
I’m not even bullshitting.
Keep acting like T.I. ain’t the southern Jay-Z.
And he’s still young.
Bad judgment and jail time are the only things holding him back.
October 4th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Cause he knows he won.
^^
I’m not saying he doesn’t know. Of course he does. I’m saying he’s never said as much publically or on record and he never will.
October 4th, 2009 at 12:05 am
*Nas hasn’t lost a step.
^^
He’s still spitting, but HHID and Untitled are some of the weakest projects in his catalogue. Both them niggas is getting old.
October 4th, 2009 at 12:06 am
God’s Son was shaky
================
You serious?
See, Jay-Z done conditioned y’all to tuning out whenever the subject matter is any thing but diamonds, cryst, bitches, etc.
God’s Son is dope.
SD was a vanity project but despite being self indulgent, there were still a handfull of good to great songs.
HHID & Untitled are both really good albums even though Untitled was too cerebral; for the mainstream.

I don’t think Nastradamus is wack unlike most. Besides for God Love Us, New World and Owe Me, I can bump every single song. Now don’t get me wrong, the songs aren’t all crack, but they’re at least real good weed.
I’d rather listen to Nastradamus than Untitled. *straight face*

I call it like I see it Nas has been crap post Thiefs Theme album wise. God’s Son could have been so much more but was hindered by wack production to me. I don’t count Pussy Killz because that was bonus. Get Down & Made You Look then shit went way downhill beatwise

Queens Get The Money & Fried Chicken > anything on Nastradamus
^^
Oh no doubt, the two best songs on Untitled are definetly better than any individual song on Nastadamus side by side. The album as a whole is just a more consistent and satisfying total sonic experience.
