Rey, you can’t honestly believe that the majority of us that don’t like Cudis album feel that way because he’s not talking about crack and guns. Respect my mind nigga, lol.
It’s overblown Broadway hooks that don’t mesh with the verses, the unimaginative repetition of content, and it’s dreary production that lacks any energy or dynamism are the reasons I don’t like it.
That’s my opinion though.
It’s not a hiphop album. This is fact.
^^^
Hmm… Opinion is cool, I just disagree.. I liked the production on it, I thought it was very dynamic.. Some of it was a bit sluggish, but I enjoyed the overall story arc of it..
If it’s not a hip-hop album, what genre would you put it in? (nhx3)
And you luh da crack and guns. You’re always like, “Yo, I’s be likin’ rap’n'shit, but we need mo’ crack and gunz up in dis beeyotch!”

Listening to bp3 for the first time with an actual sound system on 9/11 drinking margaritas > listening to it on my computer
Listening to a new Ghost album on anything other then a good ass sound system with a blunt or a drink > infatuations with hearing something first; so I can be the first to talk about it, first to argue and make claims about it, first to rank it, etc.
September 24th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
IMO
Hip Hop is music with our aesthetic
& rap is rap.
Rap is hip hop, but not necessarily vice versa
so CuDi, 3K, Gnarls & Ye make hip hop records that are not rap records. I can dig those albums, but I love rapping so those things don’t compare to me.
September 24th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
But for the sake of argument, here’s a “rule” for hiphop:
1. The vast majority (85-90%) of verses by artist must be rapped, not sung.
I mean, do you really disagree with that?
^^^^
I just…I just don’t know anymore….It’s hard to tell, when niggas start walking that thin line between rapping and singing….do you consider Nelly a rapper or a singer?…is rapping with melody rapping or singing…granted, Cudi doesn’t rap with melody, in truth he’s just humming words

I’d just call it pop. Electro, rnb, and hiphop influenced, sure. But it should be in the section at Best Buy with Phil Collins and Britney. The only reason its not is because he’s black, his singing voice is pretty awful on the LP, and it’s not how he was marketed.

I can’t remember who but someone said, that this album > Rae’s.
Is this considered a Ghost album or a comp album since it got the R&B cats all over this. Is this like on the level of Best of Both Worlds? 4/17 are solo joints.
Just asking because Ghost has yet to drop a “wack” album.

I guess, we’re deep in Opinionsville here. Agree to disagree.
September 24th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I kind of came up with my view on this from KRS-1′s whole “Hip Hop is the culture, rap is the music” thing.
So its like, CuDi is repping Hip Hop, but he aint always rapping. Same can be said about A lot of folks now days. I wouldn’t say a lot of these dance songs are rap either.
Same with Nelly. Sometimes that nigga is just singing. but its still essentially Hip Hop.
September 24th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
MOP are ungrateful. They lazy as shit, always blaming everyone else.

So if someone is singing over a Hip Hop instrumental that doesn’t count. I just think that Hip Hop is the instrumental aesthetic when it comes to music, but rap is how an artist delivers lyrics. I think that is a valid argument.
so, no CuDi aint rapping on his album, but it his music is made with beats that are (far out) hip hop. Trey songs aint a rapper, but he makes Hip Hop. Cuz he aint making what Marvin gaye & sam cooke made. Trey songz can hardly be considered RnB either.
at the end of the day these labels get to blurry to truly define & some purists don’t want an association with hip hop tinged Pop music. but truth of the matter is that they are stealing the Hip Hop aesthetic.
& there is no need to insult my intelligence with that little “common sense” quip.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
DONT GET IS CONFUSED … KUDI IS RAP/HIPHOP ARTIST .. HES NOT THE FIRST . REMEMBER DOMINO ?? U CANT MARKET HIM AS A SINGER .. CAUSE THATS SUICIDE . HE SUCKS AT SINGING SO DOES ANDRE 3000 TO BE BLUNT . IF U MARKET EM AS SINGERS THEN THEY END UP LIKE NATE DOG .
