& that is why Nas made it that way. To be a timeless work of art so people in the hood in 2238 will still be able to understand those emotions & stories. Illmatic is for the world no matter how bad someone wants it to be exclusive.

Illmatic to me is the GOAT album…i was 9 when it dropped if im not mistaken lol and i didnt hear it until i was 13…i still listen to it on a weekly basis either tht or IWW…Classic albums always stay in rotation no matter what…now tht i think about it its been a min since a real classic dropped

it makes me think that part of the Hip Hop’s classic appeal is consensus & there is none of that anymore. No one will agree on anything. Maybe the Blueprint, Stillmatic, College Dropout. Those are probably the closest & last things that are standing the test of time.
IMO F&L too, but I know not enough people agree. I would call it a borderline classic though. almost enough agree.
