Shooting the fair one with Trey Songz and kicking his ass in front of mad bitches has been a dream of mind ever since I saw that vid of him jumping into the crowd like a tough guy AFTER his bodygaurd did. Fuck this nigga. He’s whats wrong with R&B. Obviously a talented singer, but the nigga clearly wants to be a rapper.
I want to punch Drake too. Just because.

I really like Run this Town. But, songs like Real as it Gets, and On to the Next One, the timbaland track (I mean why the fuck Hov going to put some of his best world-play on a song called Venus vs. Mars that has a godawful chorus), just never should’ve made an album in 2009. They were the future in 2006. Jay is not the future. 40 year olds don’t change the game. They get pushed out of the game. The turning point for me was when Jay did A Billie, and even though the verse was sick, he just couldn’t flow with the beat. Like somebody said earlier, Snoop had almost a bigger effect on the game as Jay, Jay is just good at perfecting trends set by others. But BP3 shows he no longer has that ability. Not to mention, he seems like he’s run out of things to rap about, his life is too easy now and he’s too happy and relaxed to be a good artist.

I mean, Jim is a complete non-factor at this point. Even if he responed, unless it was Ether caliber (which it obviously wouldnt be), who’s gonna play that shit?
Game’s a different story. That nigga thrives off drama like my ex-girl (nh). And he’s actually a really, really, dope rapper on a purely technical level. Hov should be praying that Game is really out of fire, and not just uninspired. Cause if hes just uninspired, Jay might have a problem.

Exactly. I don’t think Kanye ripped Jay on Run this Town by happenstance. I think the song was pefectly structured this way. Look at the guest list on the album.
Just like when he hollaed at Juvenile and UGK before Southernn Rap blew up, he’s doing the same thing here. Instead of becoming irrelevant from the new class, he’s introducing them. Brillant.
And as much as I fuck with Hov (ll), he may not be dissing Game because Game might murk him. Which is smart, not bitch made.

Jay is the GOAT to me. But as many hits as he has, theres nothing in his catalog as inventive, or adventurous as “Live Now”, or “Undying Love”, or “Rewind”, or a dozen other songs. yeah, and I think part of that is transitioning from being to a child star on a corny ass TV show to a rapper/singer/pop star. And he totally plays the humble nice guy in interviews, which doesn’t fit his music at all because he talks about being such a player. But then goes and says “im not a ladies man, I am a gentleman.” He is contradicting himself repeatedly as he tries to figure out how he wants his image to look.

It’s a perception thing.Kinda like Joe Budden will have to make a national anthem to get respect from people who like the Wu,Saigon,or Ransom better.Once you get a certain label in rap the music becomes irrelevant.I can’t figure out how the music can be secondary in a music genre.

Word. Jay is smart about picking the right producers and beats to match his style, and that appeals to the masses. Nas should’ve just taken the best beats from Timbo, Dilla, Premo, Dre, Quik, Just Blaze, Skateboard, and Ye and he might’ve won in a landslide.

I wish JD would bottle and sell that shit he used to pull her.I’d cop a case and go to the next BET Awards and black out.I’m talking Taraji,Alicia,Keri Hilson type blacking out.But I think I can pull half of them right now,or at least when I get my income tax.

^^
Illmatic being considered the GOAT album is as much a product of the media as any other lie. Illmatic is incredible, but people forgot that when it came out, it was overshadowed by Ready To Die. Illmatic was the last classic “golden era”-esque album. Ready to Die was the first of the new era.

^that and add to the fact that Jay never took chances creatively like Nas has. far less risk involved with that strategy. Jay pretty much has the same formula for every album. Nas on the other you have no idea what he’s going to come up with. He doesn’t roll with a set formula for his albums.

how can you base anything off that?
^
That assessment was strictly made on BP3. Drake definitely has the greater and more noticeable body of work, but I’m surprised he settled on just singing a hook for an album that will draw the rap world’s attention. He even mentioned he wants to go bar for bar in an interview. But he pulls a semi Wayne like on Hello Brooklyn and settles for a hook? I’m off that.
*is alright with Cudi’s hook on Already Home*
September 1st, 2009 at 11:45 pm
far less risk involved with that strategy. Jay pretty much has the same formula for every album. Nas on the other you have no idea what he’s going to come up with. He doesn’t roll with a set formula for his albums.
^^
Co-sign 100%. But as cowardly as that strategy might have seemed, it was smart. As much as the formula stays the same, if you listen to each Jay album, they’re like diaries of the previous year. You can literally hear personal growth.
Oh yea, and Hey Papi = Jay’s greatest “pop/club” song.

^^thats a very good point..like when u get sooo much repetition of something you will look so good doin’ it, bc it’s been done so many times, but when something new is done not everything is smooth at first or ever

if he’s misunderstood isn’t that the prophets fault for not delivering the message in a clear enough fashion? Isn’t that part of rapping, or speaking, or writing? Making it so others can understand you? Thus making your little > point in the wrong direction.

Jay’s beat selection > Esco
but considering all the fact look at how many dope projects Esco did with his suspect beats….shit Jay had Just, and Kanye sign to Roc…its difficult to give Jay credit to his excellent production on his albums when thats the case…..its not like he personally found Just and Kanye in the woods somewhere and made classics these producers who no one heard of…that was Dame Dash…
