Video: Young Jeezy Wants To Make His Own ‘Hood’s Hottest MCs’ List

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Vote until 9/21.

Young recently told us he has his own ideas for the Hottest MCs list, saying that we should make a “Hood’s Hottest MCs” of the realest street cats in the game. He would even like to sit down with some of his rap friends and make up a list.

“Even with me, when y’all first put in the bracket, some people think different,” he explained. “Some people wanna be a lyricist. Me, I wanna be real. It’s gotta be different categories.”

Jeezy does agree you could be real and not be hot. “You can,” Young noted. “There’s a lot of cats that do. You gotta get that list though. There’s a lot of cats underground you might not even know about that everybody listens to.”

Jeezy also notes that when the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust makes their Hottest list, they shouldn’t include legends against some of the younger artists.

“You shouldn’t put a Nas on there. Or a KRS-One. That’s crazy to put those cats in the same category. They think differently. That’s why we should do mine. … It’s gonna cause more controversy than you think. People gonna be calling being like, ‘He ain’t really like that.’ ”

Lemar and Dauley, the same people who brought you the “Le Da Soul” tee, also made something for the Tribe heads. I remember the couple heatrocks these guys dropped back in 2006.

Related: Look out for the Le Da Soul mixtape from them along with the homie Mick Boogie that’s scheduled to drop on Labor Day Weekend.

Video: Nardwuar vs. Nas

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Nardwuar landed himself a sit down with Gnozir who smokes way to much trees to even talk to this guy. Great interview though (to watch).

“You’re tripping me out…”

Nas was doing his best to keep up, and at one point, Nardwuar even reveals that Biggie once fell asleep due to the fact that Nas’ freestyle went on for way too long. Although Nas’ selective/weed head memory didn’t remember that . Nardwuar basically composed his very own “Where Are They Now” right in front of Nas but he sorta lost it towards the end, after Nardwuar mentioned the J.J. Evans line from “Ether.”

Hit the jump for Nardwuar vs. Supernat. Props to ICE for the heads up.

Video: Drake feat. Trey Songz – Successful (30sec Preview)

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

It’s not exactly a do-over, but after receiving some backlash from his “Best I Ever Had” video, Drake tones things down in a clip for “Successful.”

The video was shot in the rapper’s hometown of Toronto. Drake and Trey Songz share top billing throughout the clip, directed by Jake Davis. Lil Wayne is featured in the original version of the song from Drake’s mixtape So Far Gone, but in the video version, Weezy’s verse has been replaced with a sung verse from Songz.

The clip is dark and opens with Drake overlooking the city. He continues to peer out from the balcony of a building during his first verse until he meets with Trey. As the two exit the condo, Drake turns back to the doorman, and his mind flashes as he and the man switch roles. The mood of the video matches the song; “Best I Ever Had” turned out to be a misstep for the upstart MC when the over-the-top clip didn’t match what fans felt the song portrayed.

DJ Skee Presents Freddie Gibbs – midwestgangsta boxframecadillilacmuzik (Mixtape)

Says Gotty™:

As fresh on the scene as his name may seem, Freddie Gibbs is not a newcomer by any means. After a less than fruitful stint with Interscope, Gibbs’ name still rings bells with industry cats, but the listening public isn’t wasn’t aware (emphasis on the past tense). The past few months have seen the Gary-raised rapper regrouping & taking control of the direction of his career, making it his task to make sure that people knew his name & skills. At this point and after the Miseducation…tape, I think it’s safe to say he has the listening ear of many and the potential to gain even more fans.

Backed by DJ Skee, midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik is another notable feather in his fitted. With no further adieu, download, listen & enjoy.

Bonus: Check out the video for “Bussdown” (completely NSFW) which is some good shit, both musically and well, visually.
