    mann is certainly an amazing filmmaker, collateral is definitely one of the best movies i’ve ever seen, but scorsese is the king. the dude did taxi driver and goodfellas, nuff said.

    Miami Vice is one thats close to home…thats my hometown so the visuals, the feel, the style of the movie are nostalgic for me.

    but i dont disagree with you, character development is not his thing (although Insider and Last of the Mohicans deliver in that regard). I love the images/sounds he creates coupled with the dry/cold interaction of his characters. It’s his signature and I think its a kind of commentary on humanity itself.

    because he doesnt necessarily give you depth through the emotional acting, where people are used to getting it. He gives it to you through the physical aspects, the senses (no homillz)….every image, movement, prop is where it is for a specific reason, and they drive the story forward

    that said, the dialogue in his films DO get deep but their delivered dead pan, kinda like David Mamet’s shit, so you gotta be paying attention
