That Jay-Z cover changed my life. My life now has two phases B.B.P.3. and A.B.P.3.

Children of Men might be the best movie of the decade… aside from City Of God and Dark Knight.
^
Amen. I haven’t seen City of God, though.
And the Jay-Z cover is dope. That ain’t “project hallway” and shouldn’t be.

for Clive or for Clive’s character? because I think it fit with his character. the nigga was a maverick (no Palin) the whole movie from the first meeting with the DA chick and the German authorities when he was screaming at them. and he tracked the nigga down because Old Russian Guy helped him.
^
clive’s character. its been awhile since i seen it to be honest. but i just remember thinking the plot went south once the old man, who’d been sinister and loyal to the bankers all these years, just up and decided to confess and help Clive, who was then able to get close enough to this big dog to have a chance to murk him.
but it was a good flick all in all. and the twist at the end was definitely strong.

Hip-hop as a culture drives America from the ground up like white people’s money drives it from the top down.

hipsta rap…the album will come with a star bucks gift card so that one can puchase a triple mocha in soy with whip cream and froth with a “drizzle” caramel poured counter clockwise with extra froth..and room, please.

If hip hop dont evolve, yall complain. When it does evolve, yall complain. Invest in tampons, niggas.
”Yeah I stayed in touch, I heard yall back home complaining… Yall complain too much”
“So hateful, bunch of dudes I put on, out there acting so ungrateful but…”
“daddies home, and he brought the 40 auti mati chrome for all the chatty chatty yall been doin”- GOAT
The game will never be the same after September 11.

i wouldnt say all that. it definitely pervades youth, entertainment and pop culture tho.

Just had a argument with this chick who said that all rappers should retire at the age of thirty. I hate that argument. “Throw it in the Bag” comes on she starts singing talking bout how she loves the song. I’m like u do realize that Fab is 31 yrs old right?

As a white person who doesn’t have white person money like I’m talking and has been happily ensconced in hip-hop since prolly the age of 13, I know that there’s little that makes white people happier than trading their money for a little bit of the cool that Mike Jack and Jordan stole back from the Beatles, Elvis, and the Doors.
Also, hip-hop, because it’s younger, and hops to the next thing as quickly as possible, is always adapting. Evolve or die? That’s hip-hop.

Okay, so who’s buying stuff in those three markets and why? Why did Eminem rap instead of picking up a guitar? Why are the biggest pop stars in the world (and don’t kid yourselves on this) Kanye and Jay, with Bey, a hip-hop/pop concoction, right behind? Why is Will Smith the biggest movie star on the planet?
Cool changed after people realized disco was kinda wack. Good thing no one ever calls “Rapper’s Delight” disco, though it is.

It is, but don’t knock the hustle. Money from Starbucks spends the same as money from Strapped Condoms and money from slinging.

1). Lil’ Wayne is no gangster, no dope dealer, no Blood. He’s, in truth, merely a child star who cashed in, quite handsomely I might add, on the untimely retirement of Jay-Z in 2004. Many of us who, today, shake our heads consistently at the very thought of Lil’ Wayne being regarded the “Best Rapper Alive,” remember the laughs we shared when he first, in early 2005, declared himself that. Most saw his ambitiousness as an unwise publicity stunt, but lately, circumstances have changed considerably. What we now realize, and are forced to admit, is the enormous control of those “old White men” Mos Def sang about in “The Rape Over” (The New Danger, 2004)..
^^^Yikes…

so you’re agreeing with me then.
what u said before was that hip hop culture drives America from the ground up and i think thats a massive overstatement. i mean what does that even mean?

Well, I mean that you’ve got (this is gonna get technical, but bear with me) a segment of the population who are taste-makers who shape styles (this is, to me, a lot of the people who shape the music, fashion, and attitudes of hip-hop) and a segment of the population who produce things that those taste-makers either accept or reject.
I think those taste-makers are logically the lower rungs, because they largely can’t make the stuff, so they’re the ground-up part of culture, and that the higher rungs are dictating culture by creating the framework of it.
So, yes, I’m sort of agreeing with you, but I think that we underestimate the power of the youth culture to make things popular or valuable. Part of the reason baseball’s falling off, for example, is just because basketball’s been rising for 30 years as the birth rate has been rising. More kids have grown up playing basketball (or football, but that’s not the point) in the last two decades than in the 1970s and 80s by dint of there just being more kids in the last two decades.
This year (I think this stat’s still true, though it’s a little old) will be the third straight year to set a record for most high school graduates nationwide. That’s a critical mass of 16-20-year-olds.
