I like it. My only guess @ what it means is the music in the background is white, or bland, and the 3 red strikes represent the third BLUEPRINT, which is supposed to be different from all the white/bland music in the background. Also, red is the most striking of all colors, so I guess this album is going to be a far cry from the music we’re used to hearing. Just my 2 pennies…spend it wisely.
*I humbly ask you to click my name*
August 3rd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
looks like the dc flag (but w/ 3 stripes)…guessing like the stars on dc’s flag represent the 3 city states (DC, London, and the Vatican) Jay is prolly tryna portray his take on Hip Hop so far as being under the influence of the so called ILLUMINATI, thats y the instruments are behind the logo…and the instruments are all white so im guessing he’s saying they are all under the shadow of one powerhouse…thats y when u turn on the radio u hear the same shyt but a different voice (bubble gum rap, pop hop, commercial rap or wateva u wanna call)…atleast that;s my take on the CD cover…might be farfetch’d but who knows? Just a comment on the cover…
If meant in the literal term..that symbol (equals sign with 3 lines) means “is the same as” or “is defined to be”…as opposed to the equal sign which just means “is equal to”
In some areas of math, this is a symbol for congruence which roughly means “equal in all measures”
August 3rd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
so Rigga the white is not symbolic? Maybe the cover is a kilo of that white, maybe his music is cocaine.

I mess with Jay, from Reasonable Doubt to The Black Album. I’d like to think Kingdom Come never existed, but then he dropped American Gangster which I thought was pretty solid. As far as this album is concerned, I’m not hearing anything that warrants any real excitement, you know, the type of excitement a Jay release used to garner, back when he was actually spitting. On DOA and Run This Town, I hear a middle aged cat trying to prove that he can keep up with the young cats.

those three stripes remind me of some Jean-Michell Basquiat shit.
I think that it used to be harder for old heads to stay relevant and popular within the culture. But it is changing. there are mad heads out there over 35 who are still doing there thang [wu-members, hova, dre]. It is probably attributed to the technology, communications, and media advances. And most importantly, the game has chnaged. a lot of these “older” cats is still mad hungry and are good and recylcing their shit. hip hop culture is definetly harder on the older cats, and og kats are always talking shit about young cats. this generational conflict is only natural. whta did you expect from a cultue that was founded and pioneered by young men?

jay-z explains art work
“These things are like the forgotten pieces in hip-hop,” Hov explained. “It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, making gimmicks it’s still about making music. Those things are piled in the corner. These are the forgotten things about music. It’s still about music. It’s not about radio, it’s not about making gimmicks, it’s about music. The three stripes that everybody is asking about is made from the original [number] three. The first three they made on the wall was someone carving. If you look at [the number] 3, all they did was connect lines. The whole thing about this album, how I approached it, is that I wanted to make a new classic to start that all over again to go back to making classic albums like the ones we grew up listening to.”
August 19th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
The three lines as far as symbols can represent many things, but as a historic symbol it is a very strong in Chinese Culture. In the ancient Chinese I-Ching symbols, Qian (the three lines) represents “heaven” and “creativity”.
Or it can just represent 3. Why the artist chose red for a “blue”print 3 album might not make literal sense, but there was probably some logic behind it other than to grab your attention. Maybe to avoid being cliche. I don’t think he meant to represent ancient Chinese culture, but I like the art, it is very contemporary with some ancient Chinese influence.
I loved the first two singles produced by No I.D. I hope the rest of the album follows through though.
