From what I understood from this video, you’d have to be familiar with some of the game theory tactics (no Roots album) that are used either against you or to your advantage when faced with such situations. He then expands on the problem with T.I.

Red Cafe adviser: “Ok, so here’s the strategy: We’re gonna build up a big buzz for the song, release the instrumental, let every rapper and their brother freestyle over it, do several remixes with big name MC’s, drop the mixtape and release behind the scenes footage from the video shoot. Then, just when nobody gives a fuck about the song anymore, and it’s lost any momentum it might have had, we’ll drop the video.”

If people are still confused over this video, they shouldn’t be. It’s just because they were expecting the typical rap video from these guys because this song just organically took off on its own. If you think they made a mistake with this video it might be simply because you made the mistake of thinking that just because the song was doing good on the radio that they’d settle for the same destiny everyone else would when they meet with success. This video just proves that they still don’t, or never did, intend on going that route, even though it’s nice, and that it’s always been about something else. That “Best I Ever Had” being on the charts wasn’t necessarily the end goal, but just a nice surprise. It just made getting things done much simpler. I frankly like the song more now that there are these visuals to go along with it, I didn’t like it as much as his other tracks when I first heard it. This song wasn’t even supposed to be on the mixtape…
