    See, nowadays, i really dont think you need to have many memorable LPs to be Top 5. the industry has changed.. budgets for albums just arent the same.. the same effort that went into albums in the past now go into mixtapes… and with all the leaks, some artists best tracks came out first on mixtapes and wouldnt be included on the album. i judge it on the overall body of work.

    but time and time again, we see that is rarely the case. an album isnt just one artist in a room. its a whole team of people. and depending on what’s going on in hiphop at the time determines which tracks make the cut. its not always about crafting a classic.. many times its about getting a hit or two and making a buck. an artists mixtape could be their best work. it could be the album they WANTED to release but couldn’t due to label nonsense. don’t you listen when any of these rappers talk about this sort of things in interviews etc? smh
