if hiphop iz singles okay nas has not big rap charted singles
it’s hiphop is albums tell me if jigga can make an “Untitled” type album ?
nah…i don’t think so.. jigga is on the repeat mode..same method, same success
nas has probably the greatest hh catalogue alive
more an emcee than an entertainer (and i like jiggaman again)
but for a lyrical/conscious/intelligent rapper Nasir has the greatest career to me. platiniums and gold album. more than 10 milli sold. what else, that’s enough to me, not ?
i think that u will see Distant Relatives
a more human best of both worlds album than jigga
nas is a better artist than jigga. word up

What some people fell to understand is that nas was asleep for 3 albums to hova woke him up…nas disappears for years at a time with no music or nothing..jayz has been out for 13 years album after album hit after hit….to be the greates you have to be the shit in the hood AND CROSSOVER,

July 25th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Thats what jay did, his music was broad enoug to capture the hood and pop music, for over ten years, you can like nas all you want, but the masses still crown jigga by having soul out concerts and plat. album sells for the last ten years, i know some people dont like to count sales, but thats the only way to judge it fairly, because other than that u r just going by opinion.. nas last deal 7 mill, jayz 150 mil, that shows u that on a greater scale jayz has had more influence on the culture….

first lp classics !
then great/dope sequel, commercial n critical acclaim
then a lil critical failure
ABOUT TRILOGY nas three first albums > jigga’s trilogy
okay jigga sold more… i talk about music here !!!
then a great come back (stillmatic and blueprint)
then a great album too (black album n god’son )
u can see a ressurection n a classic for each one !
two good double lp also.. even if jigga still have blockbuster album
then a lil cirtical failure (kingdome come n HHID)
and good comeback (Untitled n AG)

Never sold out concerts like that, however It Was Written was a huge crossover success however it’s criticized for being eh based on it’s quality (assessed through opinion) and lyrical dexterity in comparison to Illmatic
(which , untill than nas is a very good m.c, but he is not in legendary status…nas rocks the east coast, but trust me on this nas has not been hot in the south for atleast 7 years, and i dont think he was ever hot on the west coast…these are just facts…but nas is till a damn good m.c

And thats how it should be, not everyone gets in the hall of fame…… nas is very good though, but i do not think he is in jay’s status, only one m.c i believe can see jay and thats Big, thats it no one else but thats my opnion…jigga mastered the street tells, the flossing, the real shit (stories about his dad and this cant be life) the inspiration shit (shit that makes u want to hustle and shine a little bit) he mastered the story telling (meed the parents) and the radio hits.. and he did it for years upun years…

Yeah but the hall of fame isn’t a one person thing either. Jay-z’s obviously done what no one else has, but to dismiss others from legendary status is ridiculous. Jay-z is the biggest thing in rap, but he’s not rap. What criteria does Big match up to that Nas doesn’t, I just don’t see how your assesments make sense on any level. And in all the categories you just named Nas has classics in as well. And as far as story telling, Meet The Parents was ehh, as is felt by most people

^^^^
Nah they’re definitely not the same, Jay-z ran/runs this shit and he’s the ambassador of the culture. And you’re right, he’s more popular than Nas. “status” wise the entertainment world, worlds apart. Musically? To, I’m guessing, most rap fans, whoever is your favorite, neither one is far ahead of the other in classic material. So to say that nas fell asleep for 3 albums when they are arguably slightly less good, the same as, or better, than Jay-z’s following 3 albums, is just a false claim.
Yeah, I know Project Windows, but what you said was obviously dismissive and alluded to Nas not really living this shit, or Street Dreamin.
And you don’t have to state the case of biggie to me, I’m familiar with the catalog. He was amazing at everything. But yeah he had a classic double lp w/ no bad songs, but noooobody else did that, not even Hov so that’s not a shared point on your legendary checklist. He’s a greaty story teller, which is based on my and your opinion, and he pulled outside people into hip hop culture. And that’s cool that you think he might be better than jay-z… but I still don’t see what Jay-z and biggie have, that Nas doesn’t.

Im done with this age old argument….
So no matter what you been told or the records you sold
Deep inside you know that it’s only one Hove
Young Vito, voice of the young people
If my life is a movie then Sigel be the sequel
We bring it to your door with Bleek peekin’ through your peek hole
And don’t get scared nigga, alert ya people

go buy BP3, the first day at the first time…
CHORUS
All I need…
huh
ALL HE NEEDS
July 25th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
It’s an age old argument because it’s a valid one. If it was so nonsensical to compare them, no one would do it. And for Jay-Z to honestly be considered THAT MUCH better because he’s had a tremendous amount of financial success would be to ignore the actual abilities that Nas brings to the table. No one is claiming that Jay doesn’t deserve his due props, it’s just silly to say, “Nas doesn’t sell out MSG, he must not be as a good a rapper.” Anyone with half a brain knows there is soooo much more than spitting bars that determines whether or not someone becomes a megastar. But as fans, the ACTUAL MUSIC should be our only concern.

^^No this just means more hip hop fans come out to support jay and believes in his music more than nas..we are talking about a street m.c in jay that sells out these areans not some pop ass m.c, but a street m.c just like nas…jay made street music that crossed over, not the other way around.. Nas is damn good but he know and you all know, when its all sad and done jay will have the greater influence on the culture, not because of sells (shit hammer sold more) but because the masses believed in his music

I do like Jay…hes in my top 3 without a doubt…but he is more of a businessman than an artist…how can u deny that? Everyone of his albums after 2000 has had some kind of gimmick attached to it.
Blueprint – Beef with Nas and others
Blueprint 2 – Double Album
Black Album – ‘final’ album
Kingdom Come – ‘comeback’ album
AG – ‘conceptual’ album
Blueprint 3 – ‘anti-autotune’ album
its really more about money than the artform with him…not to take anything away but he and Nas are different artists…yes Jay is more popular but does that really make him better? cmon! Only rapper that gets that kind of interest when releasing an album is Eminem.

You aint crazy, dont you play me, dont you know its Jay-Z
When internet ask you who’s the best, why wont you say me
Dont you hate me, cmon baby, was it all gravy
I took my lumps comin up just like a boxer baby
My first style may be if I stutter, maybe
But then I slowed it down brought it from the gutter baby
Matterfact, I dont give a fuck what you rate me
Record labels told me, guess what the fuck that make me
Super rich, stupid bitches know Im super viscious
Like standin over a wounded man with two biscuits
Lets get it clear like eucalyptus if you conflicted
My flow is like the Cuban missle crisis
Nigga my hand missles is priceless,
I hide a couple rare jewels in a verse
for my niggas that like to listen like this

I did, although sometimes I feel differently. Judged seperately from Nas’s catalog it’s a really solid fucking album. Plenty bangers, scattered classics, great cohesion, great production, and no colossal failures (c) Sunshine

^cosign. And don’t forget about Wayne. The thing about these three artists (and I may be forgetting others) is that they’ve reached a popularity level that almost trumps the actual music. Tha Carter was easily Wayne’s best album, but Carter III was the most popular. Relapse sold mad units, and most hip-hop heads said they were disappointed in it. So what that tells me is that no matter whant they put out people will:
1. hype it
2. buy it
3. say they love it, even if they don’t
You can’t tell a Hov or a Wayne stan anything about their music, cuz niggas’ brains is already warped. And even if the shit’s trash, they only know that “it’s Jay-Z’s, so I love it!” SMH…

I feel you, and I don’t why I responded as if you said vol. 1, but yeah I just think it’s a matter of preference. I Am was my first Nas CD so maybe that’s why I’m partial, I remember buying that, Ruffryders, and DJ Clue on the same day. My mom took vol. 2 away from me when I first got it after reading the panflet so I probably just go more accustomed to one lol

Curse the day of they birth confused, who’s to be praised?
The mighty dollar — or almighty Allah
I’m like the farmer, plantin words, people are seeds
My truth is the soil; help you grow like trees
May the children come in all colors, change like leaves
but hold before you, one of those, prophetic MC’s
with blunted flows, seven hundred souls in me
Each channeling, from past to present times, heaven shines
light on those, innocent to how the world grows
Some men become murderers, and some girls become hoes
And you accounted for, everything that you heard
Do not speak to fools; they scorn the wisdom of your words
My heart is wise, bloodshot eyes, the saga never dies
Ghetto prisoners rise rise rise
Peaccccce people

This Hov vs Nas would never end b’cos that is what rehumaized jigga to a lot of fans… he seemed too untouchable…
Lets talk about facts though, Nas keep rhyming about all this i’m a wiseman type shit but has very questionable judgments. He dn’t practice what he preach.
Jay Z is the only rapper to fulfill damn near 95% of what he rap about it makes it surreal.. hence all the hate. he makes questionable decisions like not dropping the right singles and dismantling roc-a-fella but at the end of the day hiphop has needed jay z as much as he’s needed hiphop.
