  15. American Mob Says:

Was anyone else entirely underwhelmed by both jay and nas on “i do it for hip hop” with luda? i saw the feat. jay-z and nas and i got excited but it was miserable.

  16. FaMs! Says:

You can tell Nas wanted to be somebody and his pops had alot of influence when he put together “Illmatic” which was a lyrical master piece umatched still over 15 years later.

It was Written is where he took the Al Sharpton swan dive into propaganda..even though he had some concepts songs that were before it’s time.

When Hip-Hop went into the shiny suit era Nas totally went against everything had us believing in his first 2 albums.

Jay-Z is a walker, Nas is a talker

  17. AmpGeez a.k.a. Fuck Yo' Thoughts Says:

Jay always says he wishes he could rhyme like Talib or Kweli & I believe him. He knows he lacks depth and at this point I think he’s incapable of making thought provoking music.

  22. Apollo Says:

Nas didn’t sound as focused on Untitled as he did on the nigger tape, though it had some dope joints. Testify, fried chicken, nigger hatred to name a few.

  23. b-ease Says:

King mag had an ill article in their last issue about settling hiphop debates once and for all. One of the more interesting was “Nas Has the best solo catalogue in hiphop”. Not saying he was the best, but that his total work is > anybody else.

I’m on the fence, I think an argument could be made for Hov or Ghost, which they acknowledged in the article. But they still had Nas come out on top (ll). I can’t call it.

  44. the real truth Says:

Jay’s catalog and nas’s catalog are completely different kinds of music so to say one is better than the others makes no sense…as far as bein an mc goes though…

    Nas > Jay

  45. b-ease Says:

Nas takes more risks creatively, therefore he tends to fall on his face more (ie: a third of Street’s Disciple). But that same creativity (on the same album nonetheless) also manifests in songs like Sekou’s Story and Live Now, something so ill, that I just can’t see Jay touching.

^^^ have you heard Meet the Parents? Gimme a break. How about Song Cry? How about any of Jay’s work? Weak storytelling?

    ^^
Meet the Parents is meh. Song Cry is classic in execution, Jay makes up for lack of descriptiveness with cleverness. Nothing wrong with that, its a great song, but I prefer the storytelling style of NY State of Mind or Shootouts, I personally think its more impressive from a strictly writing perspective.

Don’t get twisited tho, I’m not giving Nas the co-sign by any means, and “weak” was probably a too strong a word. Still, Nas’ storytelling > Jays.
