Jackson, who died on Thursday at age 50, bought the Beatles song catalog in 1985 for $47.5 million. This purchase severely damaged Jackson’s relationship with Paul McCartney, who was bidding, along with Yoko Ono, against Jackson for the song catalog.
“You know what doesn’t feel very good, is going on tour and paying to sing all my songs. Every time I sing ‘Hey Jude,’ I’ve got to pay someone,” McCartney said in 2006.
Before the feud, Jackson and McCartney had collaborated on hits such as “Say, Say, Say” and the “Girl is Mine” in the mid-80s.
According to Spinner, a Jackson insider recently told The Daily Mirror that Jackson felt badly about the bidding war that erupted between McCartney and Jackson.
“Michael told his lawyers he was sad he no longer talks to Sir Paul and said he wanted to make things right,” the insider said.
