Graffiti writer Michael “Iz the Wiz” Martin collapsed yesterday in his brother’s Florida home on Wednesday, apparently of a heart attack, according to the New York Daily News. The 49-year-old Queens native later died of complications.
Beginning his career in the early 70s, the legendary artist was recognized for his work on subway trains, his unique style, and his signature “Iz” tag. Before the city of Queens virtually eliminated graffiti art with enhanced security and new subway cars, he was a popular figure among old-school graffiti artists as well as the Hip Hop founders who they associated with.
He appeared in the 1983 documentary Style Wars, and featured in the film Wild Style.

Both of you are wrong. You should definetly know who Mark Ronson is for no other reason than the aforementioned “Fried Chicken” beat. With that said, not knowing who he is doesnt quite symbolize hiphop’s dying breath, at all.

[...] This is Wale’s long awaited collaborative mixtape with former Little Brother producer and elusive genius 9th Wonder. As the name implies, every track on the mixtape has a feature from a list of guest artists that includes Young Chris, Freeway, Currensy, Beanie Sigel, Joe Budden and K’NAAN. The K’NAAN collaboration, “Um Ricka”, is definitely my favorite, featuring some nice, groovy production from Mark Ronson. “Life’s A Bitch” with Talib Kweli and Joell Ortiz comes in at a close second though. Remember the late 90s? Like when every album had SOOO many features? Those Violator albums and what not? Well since’s Wale’s album doesn’t really have any features, we thought it’d be cool to do a very feature heavy mixtape since people are always saying “Wale should do a song with _____”. It was incredibly hard getting everyone on this tape and there are a few features we are STILL waiting on!
