Audio: Mos Def Interview w/ Angie Martinez
He starts out by speaking a bit about how he should have been a comedian and that segways into a conversation about his good friend Dave Chappelle and what he’s been up to lately. Then when Angie asks him about the video of his rant that’s been making the rounds online, the conversation suddenly took a sharp turn. He was initially saying that just because someone says they’re the best, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true + how does someone get off [||] by calling themselves the best to begin with, when people like Rakim & Slick Rick are still alive and breathing. Both points I fully agree with, even if we’re speaking about Jay here, but then he starts talking about challenging Jay and his superfriends with the help of his pals Black Thought, Nas (lol), Jay Electronica & DOOM (YN drew up the specifics here). I consider myself a big Mos Def fan, even when he’s saying controversial shit, but this was honestly sounding like some of the fuckshit that we breed in the comments section of this site, and judging by the Jay vs. Mos subject matter, he might actually read some of the late night comments.

LF : Yo, Mos Def is insane. I just read about the hiphop fest he wants to throw down in the NO. He, Doom, Jay Elec, Black Thought, and Nas vs. Jay/Kanye and their top 4?!? That event would knock the Earth of its axis. It’s also never going to happen.
But just for shits and giggles, Jay/Kanye should roll with Wayne, Jada, and Em.

why should mos be afraid of going toe to toe with jay, jay hasn’t been a big battle-type dude in like over a decade, maybe mos would son him
i think the idea is dope, why would anyone be afraid, it’s not like jigga and his superfriends make their money off of their battling rep
shit if that’s the case then iron solomon > jigga
battling is just one element, u also have the songwriting and the artistry aspect which is why drake is so big [||]

I agree. Mos was just as dope as Jay in 1999 (both their respective peaks of emceeing in my opinion), just in a completely different way. Shit would still be epic even today.

Mos vs jigga wow !
June 9th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Leave the opinions up to the bloggers making the replies…. u gotta 20 year old kid making posts with merely a biased opinion(and a 20 y/o’s hiphop knowledge is a damn joke, sorry but its true)… and that’s all it is an opinion! I know plenty of niggas that will say Mos > Jay, and vice versa….and I know even more niggas that say Nas > Jay… and vice versa… its no more than an opinion, but leave that to the cats who comment!
June 9th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Hmmm
Not sure why this is crazy. You call yourself the best ever, expect to have to defend that.
The actual proposal on the radio is nonsense and wont happen, but the sentiment of the first video is real and legit.
June 9th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Make a good album…start to finish…and then propose this shit.
Nas? LMFAO!
June 9th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
NATION & DRE GIVE ESKAY A BAD NAME. SORRY I DONT WANT THE OPINION OF SOMEONE WHO WAS IN 6TH GRADE 10 YEARS AGO.
MOS HAS THE RIGHT TO SAY THAT SHIT…NO MATTER IF HE WOULD WIN OR NOT. AND NATION TOO YOUNG TO EVEN SPEAK ON MOS. FALL BACK KIDS!
June 9th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Why niggas wanna put the lol after nas ??? Like son still ain’t better than most of these bum niggas tryin to rhyme now ? Mos vs jay is a dope battle no doubt …but leave kanye behind the boards cuz he gettin destroyed ….and I would love to hear em and black thought go back and forth …
June 9th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Matter of fact …mos , black thought , nas , common ( yeah I said it he the same nigga who wrote the bitch in yoo I bet ice cube remember ) and andre 3000 vs jay , jada . Emenem, kanye and punk ass lil wayne
June 9th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

June 9th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I would say Black star and Black on both sides satisfy the good album start to finish requirement.
And that start to finish shit could easily hang around Jay’s next as well.

how hard is it to embed the mp3 in a flash player on your site, instead of sending us out to spam-infested sites. no one’s going to harass you for hosting an mp3 of a radio show. for fucks sake.
