What Puff was doing to his artists was a pivitol thing that the industry jumped on. That type of contractual rape is now mainstream and is called the 360 deal.

Sidenote: I got offered a 360 deal by a HUGE major (pause) in 2007 when I was 16. This was before they had been named ’360′. I just called it a fucked up deal.
I told my at the time manager to tell em to get their hands out of my pockets.
Big advance + big promo + songs played in films + soundtracks + sponsership deals in exchange for 45% of ALL OF YOUR INCOME (album sales, publishing and royalties, show money, merchandising etc.) = GTFOH
