Video: Pharrell Williams Talks Street Dreams

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Pharrell speaks to Nino Scalia, co-writer of Street Dreams, about making the song “Hoppin’ Over Fences” for the movie’s soundtrack after Rob Dyrdek (of Rob & Big) approached him for it. Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Derrick Cabrera, like all skateboarders, dreams of being sponsored one day. He has all the talent in the world to make it happen but some major roadblocks to overcome before he can make the dream a reality. He is receiving pressure from all sides, his parents are stressing him because he is failing in school, his girlfriend thinks he is a loser, his best friend has become his rival because he is better than him. Things come to a head after Derrick gets arrested and a fight ensues with his father resulting in him running away from home. He does the only thing he knows how to do and opts to follow his dream to the Tampa Am contest, one of the only ways an unknown skater can get noticed.

You’ll find everything you need to know about the movie here. Street Dreams hits theaters on the West Coast on June 12th and on the East Coast on June 19th.

Video: Drake Interview w/ Liz of Power 106

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

He talks a bit about what it feels like to get feedback about So Far Gone from people like Jay & Kanye (or Justin Timberlake). He also appreciates the fact that they’ve thoroughly listened to the project, instead of just skimming through it.

He also clears up the quote about feeling guilty about having given away so much free music up until now. What he meant was that he’s been giving away music for free for so long that he now feels guilty to have to charge his fans for it. He also admits that he is a student of Jay, Andre and Dwayne, speaks a bit on how Wayne’s work process has influenced him and how he hopes to have also influenced Wayne.

Video: Kaws x Malice x Cur+@!n$ x Pusha T x Kanye x Ibn x KiD CuDi x Al Be Back x Melani Rose

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Here’s a glimpse of a conversation they had when they were standing around at the shoot. Cur+@!n$ gets his Yeezy’s autographed and more of Pusha T’s rant about not getting a pair. Kanye counters by admitting that he probably spends more money on Yeezy’s than anyone since he has to get them off eBay. The videos a bit more candid than the other ones but it’s probably still difficult to say anything when everyone’s standing around and taping you. Props to Ferris Bueller for the footage though.
