The new “trap” is far more entertaining than the new “I’ll kill every nigga in front of the bodega” rap. The Massacre was actually not bad to me (especially Baltimore Love Thing), but the so-called “crossover” joints sound severely dated these days. But DTR just has a better flow as far as the tracks. Cohesive. I can see people liking this album for a long time.

Basically the debate here is albums that can appeal to audiences AND have longevity on the iPod.
Honestly, it aint many that came out in the last year that can do both. Either they have major radio spins and no longevity (majority of the South) or some great content but just doesn’t appeal to the masses (majority of the East).
The MidWest is winning right now.

Nah i think he referin to a slight interruption in the song cause I heard it too. Sounds like the pieced 2 different sessions together. Made me wonder why they didn’t smooth it out since the rest of the album’s production was perfection.

That’s only because New York has dominated the game for so long, cats want a new sound. I understand it. Problem is, New York artists have had to adjust and while struggling to get Southern love, New York has lost it’s identity. The sound has to evolve, but not into some faux-Southern shit.
As inspired as T.I. might have been from Southern artists, he learned to rap like that by listening to New York MC’s.

That’s only because New York has dominated the game for so long, cats want a new sound. I understand it. Problem is, New York artists have had to adjust and while struggling to get Southern love, New York has lost it’s identity. The sound has to evolve, but not into some faux-Southern shit.
^Dipset had that market on LOCK. Cam and Jim fucked that ALLLL up. East Coast artists with Southern appeal (gaudy jewelry, loud ass clothes, etc). Also, cats need to take a page out of Webstar’s book and find out how to get a party moving (using his own Uptown style). They don’t have to emulate, but having the DJ as the party-starter has died in NYC (so it seems). Cutting and blending records for mixtapes alone isn’t gonna cut it.

^Most of them dudes learned how to rap from the East. But that’s smart, because they actually studied our sound while we were too busy laughing at them and mocking their culture. Jeezy, Ro$$, Flip, Banner, T.I. and RichBoy came out the gate with just hard bars.

^A Jay-Z/Rocafella cosign was about as strong as a bottle of Sex Panther back then. Yeah, I agree that Dame went too far in trying to make him VP. But Cam was not tactful about how he addressed the situation and making it public. I think if he, Jay, and Dame would’ve sat behind closed doors and talked it out like men then the situation could’ve been settled…
Which brings me to Camel… because he’s not innocent either. I don’t know what % of it to blame on him, but he stopped cosigning East Coast rap and then the next thing you know Jeezy and Ro$$ got label deals. Nothin’ wrong with that, but it should’ve been just as much push and artist development for everybody else in their hometown. I say Camel shares about another 25% of that blame too.

^Cosign. I HATED… and I meant HATED the Heatmakerz after the first DI album. It was like they were tryin’ to emulate Ye’s sampling but with much less precision. Furthermore, Cam seems to still suffer from the same affliction because he can’t pick hot beats lately either.
