D. Schwartz – Derek Operation (Mixtape)

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I’ve been following dude’s music on the low since about 2006. From “The Fresh Air Fund” shit to his present day stuff. Just the cover of the tape was reason enough to pay attention to this. What he did with the artwork,  a play on Gang Starr’s Daily Operation album cover, is very similar to what he does with his raps – but I’ll let him tell it:

This project was inspired by the timeless beats from DJ Premier that we have all been listening to for years. There is no way I could do all of them, so I chose some of my personal favorites. It was also inspired by all hip hop from the era where dope rhymes and fresh beats was what it was all about. Shout out to my Golden Era of hip hop and artists like – DJ Premier, Guru, Nas, Big Pun, Capone and Noreaga, AZ, Mobb Deep, EPMD, The WHOLE Wu, Canibus, Redman, KRS, The Beatnuts, The Lox, BIG, Heltah Skeltah, OGC, The Whole Duck Down, MOP, Group Home, OC, The Roots, Nature, Cormega, JayZ, Mos, Monch, Slum Village, Kweli, Smooth Da Hustla, De La, Tribe, I could go on and on, but if you know those people, then you know what it is.

This is not intended for the mainstream “hip hop” audience. This is for a select few who remember those days. 1

lmao @ Just getting his Killa BH on:

“I’m so amazin’ plus I’m amozin’/
I’m making up new words, new slang/
Go to the club pick up some new hoes, new freaks/
Bag em up like when I go to Footlocker to get new sneaks/”

The real music comes in around towards the end.

Video: Joe Budden Interview w/ InTheBox

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Wolff: What’s your situation at Amalgam?
Budden: [Shrugs] I don’t know. All I’m doing this second is recording. Where it goes, who picks it up, I’ll worry about that later.
Wolff: Slaughterhouse, will we see an official album with the whole crew?
Budden: Yeah, we’re scheduled to work on it soon.
Wolff: By the end of the year?
Budden: Listen, don’t put words in my mouth. [Laughs] It’ll be done by the end of the year, I don’t know if it’ll be released by the end of the year.
Wolff: Don’t mean to catch you offguard, but would it be possible to see a possible A-Team reunion?
Budden: Impossible. You will never ever, ever, see a new A-Team. It won’t be with that guy. That guy that will remain nameless. Shoutout to Hitchcock. That other guy, no comment on him.
Wolff: When you first put the camera on Tahiry, did you know she was gonna be a star?
Budden: Yup. She didn’t know it, she’s not internet-savvy. I knew it. I thought everybody would have the same reaction that I had when I first saw it.

Rick Ross – Everything You Want (ft. Usher) + Doin’ My Job (2002 Throwback)

Rick Ross feat. Usher – Everything You Want (Unfinished DTR leftover?)

Dro @ The305.com put up a Ross throwback for this slow Sunday:

Ross’ version of “Doin’ My Job (prod. Kanye West)” recorded before T.I. bought it. Dro even found an old photo he took of Ross with no beard.

UPDATE: Andrew from FakeShoreDrive commented that something similar happened with Ross & Bump J. And not with one song either, but two.

Here’s a song Ross recorded back in 2002, produced by Kanye West. It was actually recorded for the 2002 version of Port Of Miami over a beat that later became T.I.’s for his 2003 Trap Musik album. From what I know, this is one of the reasons that sparked a small beef between T.I. and Ross for a little while (I could be wrong because that’s hearsay) because T.I. eventually ended up snatching the beat.
