    The place you are most likely to find “affirmative action” benefiting minorities is in companies that have been found guilty of discriminatory hiring practices.

    For instance, Merrill Lynch. They were successfully sued for hiring practices, and as part of their settlement they agree to hire a certain amount of minority candidates, etc.

    Then the justice department actually follows up to make sure they are doing it.

    Bernard is right that white women benefit…but in these situation Merrill will set goals like 10% new hires black, 10% hispanic, etc.

    So basically, they are thirsty for educated minorities to meet this quota and make sure no new fines are imposed.
