Video: GLC & Rich Boy In The Studio

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Me and eskay got an early listen of Rich Boy’s first album back in Feb. 2007 and we’ve been co-signing him ever since.

As a bonus, I embedded my favorite joint, and apparently eskay’s too I found out after I searched the archives:

Easily my favorite song off the Rich Boy album.

Yes, eskay seriously likes Rich Boy. So much in fact, that I wrote the profile on him in the new issue of XXL.

Kanye West Complex Cover & Photo Shoot + Behind the Air Yeezys

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

kanye-complex

Never a man to rest on his laurels or approach anything in a manner even remotely resembling half-assed, Kanye decided to bring in music video director and photographer Chris Milk for a truly groundbreaking photoshoot for Complex’s April/May issue.

In the cover story, Complex EIC Noah Callahan-Bever picks Kanye’s brain about public perception, insecurity (or his lack thereof) and why Taz’s tights don’t define him as a man.

What does the brand Kanye West mean?
Kanye West: Pop but Luxury. Edgy but Comfortable. I’m about clashing worlds that you think don’t belong together. This is our world and everything belongs together. That’s the ill thing about our president. Our president is black, but our president is white, too. And the original struggle of America is racism, and to have someone in office that represents both of those sides is what I think this world is about. Segregation and snobbery and elitism should be the wack words. That should be what people use to dis people.

Read the full cover story here. After the jump, check out an extensive video rundown of the shoot and the technology used to create the images.

And finally, Complex sat down with Kanye and Mark Smith, Creative Director of Special Projects at Nike, for a in-depth breakdown of the birth of the Air Yeezy. They also have a shit load of exclusive pics, including never before seen prototype shots such as the one below.

Kanye West: I grabbed all these Jordans from their archives, and I’m sitting in the office next to Tinker [Hatfield, Jordan designer] and Mark, just pulling out shit and putting it in front of him like, “I like this element.” We just vibed it out.

Video: TSS Interviews KiD CuDi & 88-Keys + Curren$y & Mistah F.A.B.

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

In case we didn’t make it abundantly clear already, the B&T show was the talk of Austin. We had artists stopping by all day to witness the future of Hip-Hop be brilliant on our stage.

Two of those artists were 88-Keys and KiD CuDi. If you peeped our review of The Death of Adam or my endless praise of “Day N’ Nite,” you’d understand why I darted to the middle of the street to get a few words from Yeezy’s buddies. Cudi talks about his non-retirement, how “down to earth” Kanye really is, why he doesn’t do a lot of collaborations and shouts out Even Stevens and High School Musical.

BONUS — Mistah F.A.B. & Curren$y take a minute to talk to the TSS cameras.

“Niggas ain’t gonna go out and buy your album no more. But if they see this, they’ll become a part of your movement. They gon see your live shows, buy your merchandise. They’ll be in tuned with whatever you got going on.. a grind is a terrible thing to waste. – Mistah F.A.B.
