Video: Curren$y – Scared of Monsters (Live @ Nah Right/TSS SXSW Showcase)
When SXSW first made its way onto my radar a couple of years ago, I remember there being very little Hip-Hop representation. Even if you’ve never gone youself, you can probably guess from the sheer volume of Youtubery that made it’s way onto blogs last year and this year, that is hardly the case anymore. And that makes sense because, like the indie rock that dominates the annual industry schmooze-a-thon in Austin, Hip-Hop thrives on the DIY spirit and the art of the live performance.
As you probably know by now, I had the enormous good fortune this past weekend to be able to put on an amazing showcase in conjunction with the good folks from the Smoking Section and Aaron Berkowitz and Jill Sorrels of Knuckle Rumbler. I wanna personally thank Aaron and Jill for the incredible job they did of organizing everything and making sure shit ran like clockwork.
I also want to thank Trackstar the DJ, Stormshadow, Rockwell Knuckles, Black Spade, Nato Caliph, Blue Scholars, Curren$y, Tanya Morgan, Blu & Exile, Charles Hamilton, Brother Ali, Mickey Factz, CurT@in$, Melo-X, Playboy Tre and B.o.B. for putting it down like they were rocking a stadium rather than a moderately sized club on 6th Street. Not that I expected anything less, but you know, it was still a beautiful thing to see.
Anyways, here’s some footage* of the homie Hot Spitta performing “Scared of Monsters”, his first single off his upcoming This Ain’t No Mixtape, which drops on April 21st. Cop that and support independent Hip-Hop!
