Video: Asher Roth – Just Listen (Acapella)
Meka posted the an Asher Roth acapella from Sun Sessions so I went to Sun’s site and found there was another one he missed. I think this one is better than the first one, which wasn’t bad either.

The Sun? An outright racist newspaper embracing a rapper? They’d never do this with Kweli, has done this type of stuff verse in verse out for over a decade now. Come on. I actually kind of agree with Benzino in retrospect, there is a major form of double standard here. This guy, a basic MC, is getting exposure his peers would only dream of.

I mean, I’m admittedly white, but this kid’s hype is overdone. He gets pushed by the media because they are like, “Look, one of ours can finally do it again!” I agree with with Talib post: he is better than this and barely gets even features anymore. Now suddenly a white kid of above average – but not GREAT – talent comes and everybody embraces him…racism. Not to say he should get no love, because I too think he is good, but I can see it now – this kid is going to get that Lil Wayne do-no-wrong status where regardless of actual quality, every song will be hailed as incredible.

Its not asher roths fault that he’s a white guy from the burbs
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
The world’s driving force/institution is the institution of race; stigmas and double standards are created. Like Mr. Coonery said its not his fault he is who he is, he’s just a kid who likes rap and likes to rap and happens to be white. He’s some of your favorite rappers favorite rapper. When Uncle Murda or Ross or Oj da Juiceman, or Max B. drops a line like “I circumvent my words And vent for the burbs,I have emerged Ad Venti” then you can actually say Asher Roth is overrated/overhyped. Don’t be mad people actually want to listen to something creative and not just pussy puns and coke raps all day.

Robbie a freestyle can be written. BIG taught us that. and you are white whether you admit it or not. Its comments like that that let us know you are a twirp.

[...] Earlier Meka put up Ash performing a verse a capella for Sun Sessions. Here’s another video from the same performance. This time Asher does one of my favorite verses from him. A verse that deserves no hate, yet people will still do so because they seem to be ignorant as fuck. Asleep in the Bread Aisle in stores April 20th. The 4/20 Campaign will commence soon enough. I also included audio rips of both, courtesy of Dre Day. [...]
