I’m not an Asher fan, but hip hop needs him. hip hop needs to diversify again, that’s what made it hot in the first place.
As far as Asher’s flow i’m left unimpressed 95% of the time, but don’t sleep Rifkind is a genius and wouldn’t put his rep on a dude who couldn’t spit.
I’ll wait for the album to officailly pass judgement.

Asher has a slight touch of that middle america appeal that Em had. So because of that he might move some tangible units. His future is bleak tho. But then again, who’s isn’t now a days?

First of all, this is far from his first song. The mixtape he dropped w/ Cannon and Drama was front to back dope. Second of all, the comparison between Ash and Em start and end with their voice. They happen to have a similar sounding tone of voice. Ash isn’t spitting the type of shit Em was when he was first coming up – nowhere near it. If you know anything about hiphop you know that.
Take this track and put it next to ‘Crack a Bottle.” for example. Em doesn’t go in the way the used to, not even close. He’s still got that talent, but the old content is no longer there.
Asher Roth is a refreshing entry to the scene. He’s bringing some of the fun back and can actually spit some shit; unlike many of these scab rappers nowadays. I suggest you download that Drama mixtape and listen to the Freestyle over Hi-Tek’s “Sun God” beat, then come back to me and tell you would rather, “turn your swag on.”
