T.I.: “‘Beef’ Is Kinda Like ‘Swag’, People Just Throwin’ That Word Around Too Loosely”

via MTVNews:

On Monday night in the Bronx, after he finished speaking to kids at a Boys & Girls Club, T.I. finally broke his silence about why he decided to end the feud.

The whole beef between him and Shawty — which started with the pair trading verbal jabs but quickly escalated into a brawl between the rappers’ cliques at the Dirty Awards late last year — wasn’t even legit … it was the product of the overzealous media and some self-righteous bloggers. Which is why he had no problem putting it behind him.

“That word ‘beef’ is used too loosely, to me. ‘Beef’ is kind of like ‘swag.’ People just throwin’ that word around,” T.I. said. “To me, man, if I don’t mean you no harm, we can’t be beefin’. If I see you, and I don’t attack you, it ain’t no beef, and vice versa. Everything else is just entertainment to me.”

eskay would like to add “relevance” to that group:

the concept of “relevance” in hip-hop is the fucking dumbest shit ever. God I despise that word. *shots fired*

LOL @ Chappelle talking about his situation at home after he left comedy central…
“My wife was salty…you give up 50 million, thangs are never quite the same again, at home…I thought I was gonna get the Jerry MacGuire “baby you can do anything you wanna do” speech—didn’t pan out…it was more like Purple Rain around my house for a coupla months….”

  3. D. Billz Says:

There’s balance to his movies & it’s fucked up how blacks rally against the man but don’t question white Hollywood for using the same Hollywood stereotypes. There are lawyers, doctors, etc. in Tyler Perry films. Those kind of black people are not heavily represented in cinema. Does he make movies that pander to his fanbase. Sure. But you can’t tell me Madea is more offensive then Martin. Shits disgusting b.

^The difference between Martin Lawrence and Tyler Perry is that Martin has been a known rebel to the “system”. I’m not excusing his antics or any of the roles he has played on his show, but his contribution to “awareness” and brand of comedy was deemed “raunchy, racist, and unacceptable” before “Shenehneh” ever existed. He constantly brought forth topics in his comedy that openly discussed race and the mistreatment of Blacks, but most of it got foreshadowed in his physical comedy and choice of characters.

Tyler Perry is a homosexual living vicariously through the roles that he play and his general audience is the Black Christian community who support his “art”. He was well-known via plays before his 1st movie which is why he can rank in those big dollars in the movie theaters.

Tyler created Madea and intends to carry out his “fantasy” for as long as he can continue to get the financial support.

How can one compare Madea to Boyz N The Hood or New Jack City? BNTH and NJC didn’t have “happy” endings. Both movies depicted reality in both ghettos of L.A. and NYC, respectively. Exaggeration is implemented in any movie because it sells tickets. But gang life, crack houses/buildings, junkies, poverty, innocent victims of circumstances are REAL. There were plenty of messages (subliminally) in both movies. Many missed ‘em or didn’t overstand ‘em so they focused on the violence and action.

Where’s the reality of a homosexual in a dress being a savior to the Black community?

The reason why blacks and whites both continue to make “stereotypical” movies and tv shows is because “WE” watch them. I don’t see it as coonish, really. If as a black person, you can’t recognize those stereotypes on the creen & see some truth to those situations, I dunno what to tell ya. These movies are made for black people & for us to overly analyze & criticize dude for trying to make entertainment that appeals to a wide audience, without being overly crude or sexual, I just think it’s fucked up. This dude has made solid Black movies & a new Madea film got greenlit for 2010 so somebody is supporting these films.

^ how is that a good thing? thats like saying black salvemasters weren’t as bad as white salve masters

    ^

Okay, it’s never a good look to profit of off that, but would you rather Tyler Perry (who does give back, does do some stuff in the black community) or some random Rothschild in Hollywood be making that money? Stuff trickles down.

And Perry’s probably a few iotas better at those stereotypes than that random Rothschild.

look Amp, I don’t hate the gays and I don’t think there’s some big gay conspiracy to turn everybody else in the world gay. and I don’t know if Perry is sweet or not, although, dress wearing aside, he does look type fruity to me. that being said, do you really think that the churchgoing Black crowd that loves his movies doesn’t hate gays? of course they do. so to me it’s like, what’s with the hypocrisy? ya’ll will condemn the homos because they don’t live according to whatever moral code you abide by, but a dude prancing around in a dress is cool? especially when you know damn well that’s an overused stereotype in films since whenever?

That’s an hypocrisy of the church that they couldn’t enjoy the same films if Perry was indeed gay. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter. I don’t see any gay agenda being pushed in his films. The dude in a dress thing is an old standby in not only black film, but film in general. I don’t see why everyone’s up in arms over Madea. I can understand why white Hollywood hates Tyler Perry, but I just can’t get why Black people do, especially since I’ve seen his movies & I know there are alot worse images of Black people on TV & in Film.

    xenophobia

when a phobia has to do with people, you can include discrimination int he meaning… because you can discriminate against people. by contrast, attaching “discrimination” to a fear of, say, spiders, doesn’t make any sense.

and if you don’t think discrimination/hatred has a root in fear, get your history game up.

Xenophobia is an intense dislike and/or fear of people from other countries. It comes from the Greek words (xenos), meaning “foreigner,” “stranger,” and (phobos), meaning “fear.” The term is typically used to describe a fear or dislike of foreigners or of people significantly different from oneself.
