WHOEVER owns the rights to the song DOES get paid when ever it’s used in a movie, national broadcast, commercial, etc.
It’s called “licensed”. So, maybe Joey doesn’t get paid but best believe, Def Jam. Just Blaze or whoever owns the rights to th song either got paid up front(much like clearing a sample), or WILL be paid for the usage of said music. That’s why on “Making The Band” Piddy would recite Big’s lyrics and/or have the “band” members recite them or even have the music played. He and/or Biggie’s estate got PAID FOR IT. It’s also why when you get these “unauthorized” dvds of folks like BIG, Tupac or whomever, you always here “familiar” sounding instrumentals but never actual songs by the artists because the people making the dvd could not get clearance.

To be fair I personally don’t give a shit what Chris Brown did to Rhianna’s face but unless his lawyers are slippin he should get off without jail time.
