Congratulations Wyclef for sharing your story about Haiti on 60 minutes. It really shows you love your country. You said something that caught my attention. You would like to make a major dent into the Haiti problem. I know you are big on Cite Soleil and that is a good thing. But if you really want to change the whole island. All you have to do is convince the Haitian government to implement a law to take 10% of the remittances sent by the diaspora to develop the infrastructure of the island. The diaspora sends 2 billion dollars per year to their loved ones via Western Union, CAM, etc… 10% translates into 200 million dollars per year. That is a lot of money for a small island like Haiti. The diaspora need to make a sacrifice. Haitians have to help themselves. If there is basic infrastructure (water, electicity, security, roads) in the country, investors will be more apt to come to Haiti and create jobs. Tortuga island is a hidden treasure in Haiti that can be developed for tourism and the profits can be used for to fix the rest of the island. The corruption issue has to be dealt with so that the money will not be stolen and be administered correctly. This is the only way you can make a major dent and would solve Haiti’s problems.
