i’m stil not sure about 808′s

in the final version (i just bought the album a few days ago) he watered down what i thought would’ve been the two best songs…welcome to heartbreak and robocop. they weren’t as edgy as the leaks… he used strings through all of robocop instead of just at the end and welcome to heartbreak sounds weaker..

and pinnochio story is a disgrace and takes the album down a couple pegs in my view..

To me, Kanye’s not using it like T-Pain, or Ron Brownz or whoever. They do it for pitch correction. Kanye’s using it for vocal effect, like Radiohead or TV on the Radio. Which is to say, he’s not trying to make his singing sound better, he’s trying to evoke a particular mood/emotion from the song.

But addressing what you said earlier, Joe, I gotta agree with b-ease too. X’s music just didn’t age well. Like, I could NEVER see me driving down the street and bumpin’ ANY songs beyond his 3rd album. On the flip side, I still like the songs from the 1st and 2nd album and I think his strongest musical asset was bringing a new style and sound to the game. He was never lyrically groundbreaking but the late 90′s/early 2G’s was all about being gritty so it fit. As far as him being one of the GOATs, I would say no. But he was one of the GOATs during the peak of his era. If that makes any sense…
