Hit the jump for a clip of Ye accepting the award for Favorite Hip-Hop/Rap Album.
He also won for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist, which he in turn
offered to Lil Wayne.
And finally, a related bonus: AC remixes Kanye’s Say You Will.

i thought that jacket was pretty dope and jeans wasint that bad i seen worst that hat threw off alil but camo is fresh with everything so i aint that mad….kanye actually fresh the only time he wild”s out is during big events where he feels he has to outshine everyone expect kanye to go crazy come grammy time i can see it already….oh yea i just gave 808′s a listen as a whole album i can apreicate it alil more cause all the songs are cohevise and it flows very nicely Kanye got sum really dope melodies on here and not that typical R&B baby baby bay please shit which i can dig cause that type of singing is so old and wack to me. I think this album is worth a buy real talk i kinda doubted him but i gave it fair listen without treating it like a typical rap albums …why cause its not. And the whole thing about kanye being crazy…maybe he is I would like to call it conflicted though…The man wants a normal life with kids and stuff u gotta respect that and plus if you rocked a stadium in the fashion he did I bet you would have a diffrent perspective on life 2 i know i would…the kid is doing shit mj did on stage ….all that shit society and people say he should be doing i wouldent even pay attention to it cause he did what any serious artist want to do in their dream the nigga did everything a musican can possibly do

because of that im not sure why everyone is trying to
hold it to hip hop standards and expect the music
to sound anything remotely like a rap record.
its a raw(none), emotional album and if you can respect
it, cool…if not, cool. that gunplay/dopedealer sht gets old after awhile.

Why Kanye want to be Elvis… No James Brown no Isaac Hayes… Elvis don’t even relate to Hip Hop
November 24th, 2008 at 8:40 am
that gunplay/dopedealer sht gets old after awhile.
^^
Of course. But do you really think people are shitting on the Ye album because they wanted to hear gunplay from him? I don’t. I just think people wanted hiphop, and from a dude that was supposed to be hiphop savior no more than two years ago, I can understand where some of the disappointment is coming from. With that said, the album’s not wack. Dude’s too talented for that. But all these claims of greatness are overstated. Cuz as good as songs like Heartless and Streetlights are, track 6 and the Weezy joint are equally as bad.
What’s good Nah? *daps all in vincinity*

if you listened to late registration and graduation, you saw the direction he was going towards musically. ‘stronger’ was a daft punk record and the video with the japanese themes and strobe lights? his music has always been an infusion of different things. so to say he was supposed to be ‘hip hop’s savior’ was a logic fail on your behalf, so naturally he isnt living up to your expectations.
(if thats what you expected)
it amazes me how you all want artists to change AND stay the same- all at the same time.

^^
What the hell are you talking about? There’s no question that when College Droupout came out, Kanye was perceived as the next “one” as far as “real hiphop” was concerned. And yea, musically, Graduation was an evolution from his previous two records. But he was still RAPPING. In fact, Graduation was much more of a traditonal rap record than Late Registration. The only expectation I had for 808′s was for what he said it
was going to be. Just because it’s different, or an evolution doesnt make it dope.
it amazes me how you all want artists to change AND stay the same- all at the same time.
^^
You’re reaching. The above seems to be the typical response from Ye stans. Who said anything about wanting him to stay the same? I damn sure didnt. Can’t you just comprehend the fact that people may not like it because it doesnt SOUND good, not because its different than what they were expecting?

i think to sum it up, you were looking for Good Ass Job.
You were looking for traditional rap, soul samples..
not to say anything is wrong with that. But GAJ was planned
years ago. I dont think you can plan a death or a breakup,
so if you go in a different direction than originally planned
because of unforseen circumstances, it is what is.

i think to sum it up, you were looking for Good Ass Job.

^^
No. I wasnt. I don’t even know how you’re inferring that. I was looking for a album as dope as his previous ones. Not the same. Just on the same level of quality. And when you look at the ration of good to bad songs on this LP, it is not. It’s that cut and dry.
one minute you’re saying the album sounds good, then the
next you’re trashing it because of a weezy feature. i mean..

No. They don’t. That’s just an over-simplified view. And you havent even heard the whole album.
_______________________________________________________
Yes they do, and thats a realistic view and I haven’t heard the whole album but I like just about every song on there that I have heard

You know, as they announced that Kanye won for best rap male artist I knew he was gonna give that shit to weezy. It made no sense for him to win that award, when his album dropped outside of the time frame for judging. And he said it best, had this been last year, it was his award, but this year it belonged to weezy. The judges just chose him cuz he’s the familiar name.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Have anyone seen the pauly shore footage of him talking bout black comedians? I know it’s old & I know it was meant to be a joke, but wow, the picking cotton comment was a lil edgy
^^
Yea, I saw it when it first dropped. I know some people were about to be outraged till they realized it was a joke/publicity stunt. He did another stunt around the same time where it looked like somebody slapped the shit out of him on stage. I actually thought that one was real for a minute.

yeah, i think hip hop has the most closed minded fans of any genre.
people wonder why artists have gotten so comfortable putting out
garbage material; its because they know as soon as they do something different
or change the mold a bit, fans like “___” and “___” will say its wack, or they
fell off, or ‘its not really different, cause such and such did it 20 yrs ago”
You force artists to stay in this box, criticize them for being in it, and ridicule them when they finally try something new or go with something new to them.
funny thing is, most off yall itunes have 808′s& HB in it, and yall ride to work listening to the grouprip barely audible cause singing isnt “cool” in hip hop.
nggas is confused, word to buck.

How then, do you explain the acceptance of songs like Stronger, Flashing Lights, Good Life, and the fact that Graduation was his most successful record, besides the fact that it was a lot different that his previous albums aesthetically?
Expectations play a factor, but that’s not the only, or even the main reason 808′s is experiencing some backlash. Looking at it from that perspective only is simplistic.
And I liked most of the advanced tracks I heard from the LP too. Like I said, listen to it in its entirety, then make your final judgement.

Platinum Pied Pipers, Sa-Ra Creative Partners and Georgia Ann Muldrow and Declaime etc… are making this type of record but they ain’t mainstream…Kanye is a superstar the perception of his music is often exagerated in a good or bad way…

Blah, blah, blah. You keep saying this, and I keep explaining why this is a limited view on the backlash its receiving. But hey, I guess its a lot easier to classify everyone as close minded than to disconnect yourself from Ye’s scrotum long enough to realistically critique the album. We’ll just agree to disagree.

stronger, flashing lights, and good life are regular rap songs with some different sounding beats…..stronger is just a rap song with a euro pop beat…nothing so off the wall about it….You act like these songs are some never been heard type joints…
Graduation is a typical sounding kanye album….and I only haven’t heard like 2 joints from 808′s so you keep telling me to listen to the whole album like I’ll be dissappointed or something…just cause you personally don’t like doesn’t mean it aint hot.

man everybodies crying about this album. face it kanye did not make a hip hop album. this shit feels strangely familiar. its like when Garth Brooks came out with that pop album wearing a wig and shit. you had cowboys hanging themselves in their barns for that one. listen dude barely rapped on his last album. his rhymes were weak ass hell (come home, you know you cant roam without cesar) it was his production that was crazy. if you were drooling after a kanye hip hop album than you should probably invest in some razor blades and get to splitting those wrists cause it aint comin. the album is not terrible. as a rap or r&b album it would be garbage. but this shit is pure rave pop. this album is for kids who sniff glue in thier moms basement or for the mothers of those kids. i enjoy some of the tracks but definitely not as rap tracks. kanye always seemed like that dorky dude in class who would bring an apple for the teacher and this album is a gigantic granny smith for his adoring white public (teacher). his comment about not being able to listen to rap in his apartment because it was to nice for that really showed his true colors. he thinks of hip hop as something grimy and dirty that can only be appreciated in an alley between hits off the crack pipe. this album is his cleansing. he used hip hop as a vehicle to get in. now that hes arrived he has no need for it.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:45 am
damn brkninglsh good comment but i dunno if i wouldn’t go as far as to say he just used hip hop and then say fuck it, bc he has mentioned his next album will be a hip hop album in 2009….i think all the events that happened to him made him go this route with his music

Word to J.Cesar. I definitely got a little worked up on my last post. lol. I just feel that dude has been steadily moving in this direction and that his next album although it will have rap on it ( and this is just my hunch) will be on some Hip Hop lite shit. I just cant believe a guy who is eating and putting clothes on his back off rap success would make some bullshit comment like he did. It’s borderline racist as crazy as that sounds. Like i said I dont hate 808′s, mainly because I recognize it as what it is…..Music. I just cant get the pic of Kanye hugging Don Imus out of my head after his blurb (that didnt happen that I know of it’s just what I angrily imagined). And I cant help but feel that dude is not gonna return to his roots after this departure.
