….. what bout the fact that Jada’s the champ is her is better than every album he ever released, Styles stays killing mixtapes even though gangster and a gentleman was the shit, the Nas mixtape was head an shoulders above the album, say what you want but Budden has releassed 2 classic mixtapes that are better than the majority of album released in the pat decade and then he released halfway house which is also better than most albums, theres plenty other examples of this throughout rap and people need to stop dismissing the quality of a mixtape just because it isn’t released by a label and sole in best buy , judge them the same by the amount of quality songs on the CD end of story

the fact that people say but what has he done with an album is beyind retarded do you really care if it’s a ” mixtape ” or an ” album ” if it’s that good

also most the mixtapes I;m talking about really are albums because they aren’t just rapping over recycled beats thats a different story but these guys are all putting out mixtapes with original production so why do you refuse to give it less credit than if it was released by a label ?

…… your looking too deep into it, an album means a studio album, it was released by a label who invested money into it, a mixtape if unfiltered music that an artist wants to release because he knows its a good look for him, sometimes songs get stuck on mixtapes because of clearance issues that is the only difference between mixtape and album

and if a rapper has only released multiple mixtapes but they are better than another artists entire catalog ( I;m not talking about anyone specific ) than that artist is better just because a label doesn’t think he has commercial appeal doesn’t mean they aren’t talented because if rap especially now a days they look for dumbed down catchy simple commercial appeal and thats it

…. but some people have no choice, they are stuck in label purgatory, Budden was stuck there for years thats why he dropped 8 mixtapes when he was on def Jam because otherwise he wouldn’t stay relevant but if an artist on a label disappears for years for whatever reason he is irrelevant just the same …. also in reality albums are just marketing tools, theres only a handful of rappers who actually make money off their albums, most lose money because they go over budget, so the album is a marketing tool to get you to go to their concerts/shows but their apparel and so hopefully they can get some advertisments and they can get paid appearances, which is another big part of how rappers get paid, when people talk about so and so is broke because they don’t sell they have no clue how much tour money ad money and appearance fee money they get

albums or mixtapes are both marketing tools albums just have the financial backing of a label

I think he calls it a mixtape because thats the only option he has, I mean if you asked him he would probably tell you he treats it like an album but people will look at it as a mixtape and theres nothing that can be done to fix that perception, I know Budden says he considers MM2 and MM3 albums but he realizes they are considered mixtapes, I don’t think he gives a damn as long as it is appreciated and I would guess that Charles has the same type of thinking, shit thats why one of his mixtapes was called death of a mixtape rapper becaus ehe doesn’t like that it needs to be called a mixtape, just because it’s released for free doesn’t mean it has to be placed in a box with other mixtapes

…. I really like Budden’s debut but it’s nowhere near classic because there was too much filler and label inflicted garbage, however walk with me 10 minutes Calm down are all more than classic songs and showed his true potential

as for Lupe F&L was a classic IMO, the Cool was ehhh it only had a couple good songs I thought he went to heavy on forced conceptual ideas instead of just letting that shit come naturally

I think he calls it a mixtape because thats the only option he has, I mean if you asked him he would probably tell you he treats it like an album but people will look at it as a mixtape and theres nothing that can be done to fix that perception, I know Budden says he considers MM2 and MM3 albums but he realizes they are considered mixtapes, I don’t think he gives a damn as long as it is appreciated and I would guess that Charles has the same type of thinking, shit thats why one of his mixtapes was called death of a mixtape rapper becaus ehe doesn’t like that it needs to be called a mixtape, just because it’s released for free doesn’t mean it has to be placed in a box with other mixtapes

so even excellent rappers can do some mainstream and weak verses (for his career i say) on his own ish. and stay an excellent rapper nevertheless ! so!!! okay it’s da label inflicted garbage, but BUDDEN chose to do dat with it ! so it’s not the own fault of tha label only.
