Yeah, I remeber them little niggas! The Mulemen! LMAO! Aight! Aight! Doug used keep them niggas under his wing. I think they were his sons or something.
October 22nd, 2008 at 5:07 am
The history lesson is cool and all but why is it Doug seems to have a fallout with almost everyone of his partners? and why didn’t he metion the other kids that were burning the street up wit K Superior? The Mulemen! ILACOIN (Doug’s album spelled it, Illaquoin) and Mansone Bates. ILACOIN went on to do independent joints like “By A Stranger” with Black Rob for Grand Theft Auto III and Wu-tang just redid another one of his tracks to make that “Take It Back” record. Doug is the fifth element of Hip Hop if you ask me but ain’t keeping 100.

That Virgo track was my shit for the longest.
October 22nd, 2008 at 7:46 am
LF: I was thinking about this the other day. I think some people believe hip hop is in the trash can right now because they include every “rapper” in the genre of hip hop. People who listen to the Rolling Stones wouldn’t necessarily consider Fall Out Boy to be in the exact same genre. There can be different genres within the same genre. Plus the constant talk of sales figures get nauseating. I never hear my female friends talking about how Carrie Underwood only sold 50K last week. It seems like there is too much talk about what is wrong with the music instead of what is right with it. Like Nas said: if your asking if hip hop is dead there’s a pretty good chance your ass killed it.
October 22nd, 2008 at 7:50 am
And also who cares how old an artist is. I’d rather listen to a great 80 year-old rapper than a 21 year-old with the skill level of eli porter (no offense intended).

kids these days dont giv a sh* about hiphop history. no wonder quality of todys rap music is in the trash can
^Hip hop is only 30 years old, niggas act like it’s been here since the beginning of time, I think it’s crazy that kids don’t pay attention or respect the past, but hey, can’t force em too, it’s human nature you relate to what’s current, & U.T.F.O rapping about a bitch name roxanne isnt current to these whipper snappers, how many kids are even named roxanne nowadays? You have few that are historians of hip hop, a few, & that should be good enough.
In the 80′s when ninjas was rapping about there radio & adidas, the older people hated it, while the young bucks loved it, & rebeled against the old heads
In the 90′s when the adidas niggas became the old heads, they hated the gangsta era, & the young folks loved it, so they rebeled
2000 came & the 80′s learned to appreciate the 90′s cause they really hate what’s in now, same cycle, if the youth never learned it wasn’t meant for them to learn.

the Nas Hovie exhange catagorically the best moment in rap history. And at the end of the day these 2 titans showed the World that men can put ego aside and do business.
The nigga Hov new his blessings without repent, would be his downfall. Thats why he spoke of it in a few songs specifically the line in Beach Chair he spit
“see i got demons in my past so i got daughters on the way
if the Prophecy’s correct than the child shall have to pay
for the sins of the father
so i barter my tomorrows against my yesterdays
in hopes that she’ll be O.K”
Moreso his growth was realized in his sudden humility.
Nas on the other hand, was always a forgiving dude. It wasnt in his nature to hate. At the height of the battle he wished Jay well.
“Y’all niggas deal with emotions like bitches
What’s sad is I love you ’cause you’re my brother
You traded your soul for riches”
As seen once Jay came back down to Earth it was only natural that those 2 would dead the beef.

I’m not disrespecting joe at all, but really listen to his raps, he doesn’t use big words really, & he doesn’t break his rhyme pattern in his 16′s, think about Jay-Z “Can I live” how his use of big words switched up his rhyme pattern, or ghostface “One” or nas “esco let’s go” those are some lyrical songs. Now joe can paint a picture with the best, but he doesn’t step out of his boundaries with the words, he’s nice as fuck with the words he use, that’s why I say he has great wordplay.
Joe does this thing I call “set up punchline bars”, i’ll break it down, the joint 6 minutes of death, now I might quote it wrong, but you’ll understand

Big words dont make you a lyricist. its the mechanics of the flow. rhyming syllables (dosent have to be big words). True lyricist can make a bar rhyming an entire line for line.
October 22nd, 2008 at 9:39 am
i agree.. big words don’t make you lyrical.
but i see what joe88 is sayin about the punchline setup.
from an emcee standpoint.. when a punchline setup is blatent.. it just takes away from the lyricism.
cuz you’re like.. oh.. he just said that line to setup the punchline…

October 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 am
sense when using big word make u lyrical….if i say large and you say monumental does that really make u that much better than me lyrically…i dont think so….im smh people still think like that
^Sense when did I say big words make you lyrical? I said in THE TRADITIONAL sense of being “lyrical” like past rappers that I named, I never said that big words make you more lyrical, but you can argue that it does, using big words means your vocabulary is wider than normal rappers, meaning that you can play with more words, so yeah, I can kinda co-sign someone if they said bigger words = more lyrical, but that’s not the point of my post, I said that joe budden has great wordplay, he uses certain words better than others, but he doesn’t use words a rapper like say cormega uses, now as far as wordplay Joe > Mega, but as far as vocabulary mega > ______
Joe Budden has great wordplay. He’s not a lyricist imo, but I will chose wordplay over big words if the big words are used just to sound lyrical.
Ya’ll gotta know the difference
October 22nd, 2008 at 9:40 am

@Digi
I think max dissed tru life & bleek when he was with dipset, I been listening to some old max & he was a better rapper with them, but when he left, his creative side got a chance to flourish
My homeboy was over my crib yesterday to get some songs on his Ipod & I was rocking some biggavel & he said “I see why you like his music, cause to me he sucks, but every song I heard was tight, he makes good music” that comment right there sums up why I like the music I like, a ninja can be mr lyrical, but if he makes wack music, his words means nothing, but a artist like max b can be a below average rapper (which I don’t feel he is) & make good music, I will download his whole catalog (n/h) At the end of the day, good music over all.

^Check
I just know Nas is a mainstay
^Double check. I just know i’m in my own top 5, is that allowed? This year Nas has sealed his slot in my top 5, the reason why I say this year is, it’s almost impossible for a rapper to make the quality of music 15 years in the game, I swear you would think nas wrote most of that shit in 93, put it in a time capsule, & waited.
Staring at the face of my watch is like a crystal ball
I swear it felt like the earth moved when I listen to “esco let’s go” very high off the exotic, earphones on, looking into the sky. Any nigga that doesn’t listen to nas isnt allowed within 1000 feet range of me.
