thats deep, but its gonna go over a lot of peoples heads 1. because its 9 minutes long 2. because u gona hear “50 fell off” “he dont rap like he used to” “hes not real
” they both bring something great to the world the difference to me is 1 does it more for self while the other does it more for the world, but dont get it twisted u gotta b selfish to wanna be president too. thats a lot of power right there, more than jay, 50, puff cud ever have unless they were in that position.

ya ya obama is alright. i think he’s atleast honest. not like these Bushies and other guys we usually have. but it still fucking boggles my mind how someone (especially a minority, and someone who seems to “get it”) can still be against gay-marriage. its absolutely rediculous.

this is the dumbest shit ever. No shit, they are differnt. The only thing they have in common is their skin color. 50 Cent is a musician. Barack Obama is a fuckin politican. So why in the hell would they even try to make a comparison in the first place.
October 11th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
This looks interesting; it seems more like a smart way of defining the complexities of black men, which is needed when some folks can’t get past the old lazy stereotypes… Oh well!
Eskay, I saw what you wrote about 50’s before I self destruct trailer and I wonder if you said the same thing about “The Streets Is Watching” trailer or movie when you saw it? Man you seriously need to check your bitch ass emotions when you talking about 50 Cent.. You get to acting like a scorn ho over dude… That before I self destruct clip didn’t look any different from Jay-Z streets is watching and I don’t agree with dropping a movie to go with an album because that makes it seem like a score and people write it off BUT damn come on man cut that ho shit out.. For your sake!

>>Man you seriously need to check your bitch ass emotions when you talking about 50 Cent..
you need to put an eye on your lip and watch your mouth when you’re addressing the God.

it’ll be obvious if you watch it.

h.o.p.e – helping other people everywhere
yo that was a ill piece. i really hope things begin to change for the better for all of us as a whole. true barack is a politician, but its a good start…the foundation of this country is all fucked up, and the infrastructure built to support the upper class, but i believe shit has to evolve or die. we have power. lets keep the energy positive so the likkle yute dem can come into this world, seeing that a black man running the country, and believe that is the norm. powerful.

Black Masculinity. Is As Complex as it is Deeply Embedded in the Psyche of Not Just Black Men , but the rest of the world. Some folks when they look at Barack all they see is a “50 Cent” type “hooligan”. 50 Cent when he looks in the Mirror, may not see a “Barack Obama” lying inside of him. Shits Deep. And this did a good job @ scratching the surface.
great post Es.

Very interesting, thank you for this post. Black masculinity’s place in our culture is a complicated topic and I would not expect everyone to understand the video. I wish it went a little deeper, but for a ten minute doc it does a good job.

Good post Eskay. Definitely gonna send it to my people.

Before I Self Destruct = The Streets Is Watching = Killa Season = ALL THE REST OF THOSE INDY RAP MOVIES… PERIOD!!! Don’t kill 50 for doing it and not kill Jay or anyone else who has done it..

Those are all examples of artists who really could not do much better than these below average movies. 50 cent is worth hundreds of millions. Master P was a millionaire when he made his movies so if if this movie is going to be 50 Cent’s version of “I’m Bout It”, I think i’ll pass.
October 11th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
yes, kill 50 for doing it simply because of killa season alone….
October 11th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I wont watch it just because the nigga has braids….
October 11th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
so people are saying “same gender loving now”. i hate pc bullshit. “african american” can die in a fire also.
October 11th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Oakley, I’m with you on that! I dont see that movie being any different then any of those and it might be another “Bout that” but shit niggas gave killa season and bout that a shot before they smashed it to kill any support it could have gotten…
I just dont think a nigga should act like a bitch over some dude they dont even know… Perspective is needed….
October 11th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Intresting if not a little over-simplified and over-analytical in classing the contrasting behaviours of black masculanity. And in the end it doesnt bring anything new to what we know about Barack and Fif. Nor are they first or neccessairly the best examples.
Still, nicely out together for a short.

that video was a good clip, and both succeeded in places no one thought they would… even haters gotta respect 50 just like obama haters gonna have to respect it when he wins in 25 days…. both came outta no where and made their marks when the odds were completely stacked against them… and they both built on their success… bottom line even though they got different backgrounds, they got a few character traits that tie in together and have helped get each to where they are today, and why hate on that?

byron hurt is gay.
didn’t he make a hiphop documentary, which basically accused everyone of being homo-erotic and gay or on the d-lo.
obsessed much?
October 11th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
just cuz you talk about homophobia and homosexuality doesnt mean you are gay. byron hurt is married. secured enough in his masculinity to question the bullshit that others are afraid to touch.

undecided white voters likening Barack Obama to 50 Cent
yea, that’s a sure way to win the swing vote.

Why do I feel like someone is really trying to push a black gay male agenda. The documentary is flawed in telling us something many of us already know. I get the feeling this is some agenda to keep pushing the acceptance of black male gay relationships.
