I haven’t even listened to this yet, but all I know is that last Hamilton mixtape, which had like 5 of his boys on it, was better than the last Curtis album by about 10 times.
_________
… easy i just tried to make a best of Charleses mixtape, that are all been released within a month, and the shit won’t fit on one CD and I can’t make up my mind which ones to drop

r^Yes-sign. Vol.3 has more wack songs than AG, & AG best songs are as good as Vol.3 best songs. But Vol.3 is good, i’m not saying it’s bad, cause it’s not, but it’s not as good as Vol.3. Vol.3 had some really wack ass beats, “snoopy track” “things that you do” “pop 4 rock” while AG had really no wack ass beats, & lyrically AG > Vol.3
^^
Pop 4 Roc and S.Carter were weak songs, granted. But Snoopy track was the shit. I’d argue that There’s Been a Murder, Watch Me, So Ghetto, and Come and Get me are better than whatever you think the dopest song on AG is. Not to mention “Jigga That Nigga”, nothing on AG is fucking with that joint. Vol.3 was the solidifier of Jay being the elite MC in the game.
Vol.3>>AG, KC, and BA

@ X– Um, no.
@ Rocksy– Yeah man, that acapela of “Minority Report” from Glastonbury was very powerful.
*******
@ McFly– I dunno, man. There’s just something about Eminem and Legend that don’t go together for me. Jay was smart. Jay came right back after the disappointment (a fair word) of Kingdom Come with American Gangster, that was an all around great album, practically dry-humping the line between “very good” and “classic”. Eminem dropped “Encore” and then a greatest hits, and then disappeared. I know Proof’s passing has something to do with that, but when push came to shove in terms of his CAREER, Em just shrugged and accepted “Fell Off Status” (fueled by the disappointment that was “Encore”) and became a fuckin’ hermit. To me, that doesn’t = legendary.

“Encore”’s bad songs were more memorable than it’s good songs, and that’s not good.
toy soldiers
yellow brick road
Mockinbrid
are all better than 99.3 % of shit thats been released since then
and there was at least 2 other good songs on that album
^^^
Okay, that being said, there are some quality songs on “Encore”, but ass like that, my first single, puke, some of the skits, rain man, big weenie, evil deeds… Those were bad, dude. The d-12 song was bad, but what d-12 songs aren’t? I really liked toy soldiers, mockingbird, mosh, encore, and spend some time, but it was still a disappointing venture.
Bottom line: If you’re Marshall Bruce Mathers III, you don’t leave your solo career with “Encore” as it’s final display of talent/effort. Jay-Z gets the pass because he redeemed himself with “American Gangster”.
You go out on top, or if not on top, at least good enough to let people know that you didn’t tarnish your legacy.

^First off “jigga that nigga” was on the RRC vol1 first, & a bonus track on vol.3 so that don’t count, & how can you forget “dope man” & “nymp”? I thought you bring them up first, but “say hello” can go toe to toe with any of those songs, “Success” “american dreaming” “American gangster” “Fallen” “No hook” “Roc Boyz” will smash vol.3. Vol.3 is a great album, but AG just has more better songs, & less bad songs than Vol.3
Co-sign Vol.3 cementing him as a elite MC

Em honestly doesn’t care what people think about him. Ho many times does he need to say “I just don’t give a fuck” for people to get it?
So put my tape back on the rack/
Go run and tell your friends my shit is wack/
(Cuz I just don’t give a fuck)
Em and Jay are different dudes because Jay is concerned about his style and image, he’s 40 and jumped on the “skull and crossbones steez” bandwagon when you know that shit isn’t for anyone over 30. Em has become Prince of the du-rag (All respect to the King of the du-rag, Memph Bleek) and hasn’t followed any trends at all. His image is the last thing on his mind.

When i think legend, i think Rapper that fucked the game up, Like Buckshot in the early 90’s had EVERYBODY rappin to his flow, Like jay & his fly shit… a few cats… i mean just cuz u sell units & make a few fly joints dont make u a legend, Look @ Fab.

All of his projects are serious and he’s smart for coming out with a comedy track as his first single every time.
If I told you that having some funny tracks on your album would net you 70 million records sold worldwide, would you think that was stupid?

@ Eskay– LOL, Fair enough, even tho’ I disagree about beach chair.
@ Ty– I’m not saying any of that for shock value–you know me better than that. I’m a huge fan of eminem’s pre-encore work. I don’t think he lost talent, I just think he stopped caring, and for someone whose whole gimmick was “i’m a white boy that loves rap and has been rapping for 10 years before I got a break” to basically throw in the towel creatively after 4 years? Pfff… Summer 2003 he was destroying Benzino/Murder Inc lyrically and a year later he’s putting out trash like “Big Weenie”? Dude just threw in the towel.
I hope em’s comeback album (yes, i’ve been paying attention–i’m a fan) is incredible, but the original topic was “If em retired TODAY would he be considered a legend?”.

You serious Esk? At least say it was lyrically wonderful, give me that at least tell me you hate the beat, tell me its the beat….for sanity purposes….
October 7th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
If I told you that having some funny tracks on your album would net you 70 million records sold worldwide, would you think that was stupid?
^I don’t think that was or is stupid at all, great business move every time, 70 mill is an accomplishment, no doubt. But for me it tarnishes his legacy when legendary status is an issue; regardless of units sold to said TRL demographic.
