Greatest Rapper Runs (Runs as in reign on the top, non-leprachaun status)
1. BIG (94-97) From when Juicy first dropped until his death, BIG was the most relevent (along with Pac in ’96) artist in hiphop. Two solo classics, one ghost written classic, and dozens of classic frestyles and guest verses in less than three years. Put on Kim, co-signed Jay, made Puff a force in hiphop. In less than three years.
2. Ice Cube (88-91) Yea, Ice-T and others did it first, especially G Rap on the east, but Cube perfected “gangsta rap”, laid the blueprint for every MC that would shoot a motherfucker on wax after him. Straight out of Compton, Most Wanted, and Death Certificate. Not to mention his role as doughboy, which, in turn created O-Dog and Bishop. Respected on the East just as much as on the West (the only West Coast Artist to do so) and bodied NWA on the greatest diss track of all time.
3. Jay-Z (98-01) He became the Hov that became the GOAT on Vol.2, the first successful hip hop tour in over a decade, complete mainstream AND hood dominance. From “Girls Best Friend” the “Ha” remix. And capped it all off with an album that switched his direction again and made the Blueprint the album rappers started biting as opposed to Life After Death.
4. Tupac (1996) Helluva year. Started in jail, stayed on charts throughout spring and summer, started the beef that ruined hiphop, dropped a diamond album, and the best album of his career, in 9 months.
5. Eminem (99-02) Phenom. Became the biggest pop star in the world by eviscerating every pop star at the time and effectively ending the omniprecent “boy group/Britney” era. Some think MM is a classic, but there’s no denying how massively popular and well produced all three of those albums were. Somehow made the worst group of weed carriers in hihophop history a 3 million selling group. That in and of itself is amazing.
And yes, I’m bored. 6-10 coming shortly.

That was specifically for you joe (ll) lol. And yea he did start it, yea it did ruin it, and technically he did go diamond (even tho he actually only sold 5 mill).

6. RunDMC (’84-87) The bridge. Kurtis went platinum first, but these dudes were hip hop’s first true superstars. Made Adidas relevant to people that didnt live in Queens, first cover of Rollingstone by a hiphop artist, Aerosmith song, and a catalog that has at least 15 songs you should teach your kids, if for no other reason than historical purposes.
*looks agonizingly at clock*

yo, I’ve eaten the same chicken parm sandwhich for lunch the last 2 days and I just told wifey to bring me another one when she gets off the train. i know for a fact they put crack on them shits, it’s the only reasonable explanation.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:19 pm
If pac ruined hip hop then we should thank him, w/ pac & big still around, numerous artist would’ve never got there shot
Cam
Jay
DMX
Canibus
Ma$e
The lox
Sauce
pun
nore
The list goes on, if pac & big was still around alot of niggas wouldn’t of been able to shine fully because pac & big was still the main niggas, with them gone, it left a vacent seat for niggas to fight over, & fans was looking for the next nigga, so b-list rappers got more fans because of it.
And you forgot to add snoop on that like, from the chronic to after doggystyle (n/h)
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Should be a crime for artists to present themselves with wrinkled ass shirts like that. That’s a damn shame. He hopin his buffed physique will iron the shit out for him…nah niggaaaaaaaaa
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:59 pm
why are you people talking about the size of the pic .just judge the record is it hot or not.this is whats wrong with the internet opinions.they really dont matter.the people who like real hip hop music please stand up.

It’s not off of G-Unit’s “The Mechanic”, original beat = Ice Cube – “Bird in the Hand”

>>It’s not off of G-Unit’s “The Mechanic”, original beat = Ice Cube – “Bird in the Hand”
no, G-Unit sampled Bird in the Hand (or used the same sample) because that is not the Cube beat. listen to The Mechanic and listen to Bird in the Hand and you’ll see.
