   BREAKING NEWS: Kilpatrick To Accept Plea Deal Thursday

   DETROIT — Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has accepted a plea deal in the perjury case that will end his tenure as the Mayor of Detroit, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office.

   He is expected in court 9 a.m. Thursday to go on the record and plead guilty to a deal that includes jail time.

   The deal was worked out between the prosecutor’s office and Kilpatrick’s lawyers Wednesday.

   Kilpatrick was supposed to be plead guilty at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, a prosecutor’s representative said. However, the announcement was postponed because they need more time to work out the details.

   Sources told Rescue 4 Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy’s plea deal includes jail time, the mayor’s resignation, a six-figure restitution, community service and he would not run for office again.

   Worthy’s last deal to Kilpatrick included six months jail time, however, Rescue 4 has learned she has reduced the jail time.

   As the mayor’s ouster hearing date crept up, his bargaining power was weakened.

   Kilpatrick’s job no longer would be a bargaining chip with prosecutors if Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a fellow Democrat, evicts him from City Hall during Wednesday’s hearing.
