The G8 includes countries (Russia especially) that do not fall under the umbrella of what is genreally considered the “free (western) world”, so once again I see your point, but bringing in the G8 turns this into a completely different debate.

If thats how you’re lookin at it, then SAUDI ARABIA is the leader of the free world. They could pull alot more strings than the US or UK if they really wanted. Probably the US & UK combined

When the US says jump, most of the countries within this realm answer with a variation of “how high?”. Sure, the president of the US doesnt have any say in what goes on in small town in Austraila. But if the US decides to go to war (just one example) Australia as a whole in invaribly affected. Therefore, the descisions the president of the United States makes do impact the rest of the western world from a leadership standpoint. It doesnt work the same the other way around. You may not like the idea or the implication but the US president is the de facto “leader of the free world”. It is what it is.
