same here HHC…my moms was always with some James Brown, Motown, Earth Wind and Fire, Luther, Issac Hayes, Barry White, MicJac, etc etc.
But then she would also blast some Eagles, Bob Seger, Chicago, Micheal McDonald, Hall & Oates, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, etc
and my Uncle had me on some Southern and Classic Rock like CCR, Lynard Skynard, ZZTop, The Doors, etc.
And then my bro was on that 80′s and 90′s R& B ish and most of the West Coast Hip hop.
I found out about Nas, Biggie, JayZ, Pun, Big L, Mobb Deep, and the 100′s more on my own.

co-sign but it was harder in the Midwest to get that ish…esp the exclusives and mixtapes…we had to know somebody who lived in the NY to get that shit mailed to us…my homie Greg had a cousin that lived in NY, he would send us mixtapes, DJ Clue and whatnot.
but yeah radio at night, cause it had the best midnight hip hop mixes (radio all around was just better and more eclectic, than just 20 songs a day) and Rap City with Joe Clair and of course YO! with Ed and Dre.
