christmas albums,
teeny pop star albums, and

sell a million-plus, the record industry is going to focus on sales
people have been saying for the last five years that sales are not going to matter any more. guess what? people keep waking up to a world where sales matter. all this destroy-and-rebuild stuff? sounds great in theory. everybody can speak very intelligently about the destory part. nobody has yet artiuclated a fully viable way of rebuilding. obviously i understand the cultural significance of blogs but if you think that this is the end-all be-all of the new musical horizon, you’re wrong for a number of reasons.

I think they’re only recently waking up to that fact. and you’re right, nobody has come up with a viable replacement yet, but people are definitely trying. To me, the essential difference between the South and New York rap is that New York rap is grounded in a lot of dense lyricism that makes it more satisfying on repeated listens, while the South style is much, much better at making a really catchy jawn ready-made for the Saturday night out.
It’s the difference between Jadakiss and Li’l Jon; they’re of two totally different camps, and each has value. You can like both, one, neither, it’s your opinion.
But consider that there’s value to practically every piece of music and reasonable thought behind practically every opinion.
