Um Eskay, I thought you were more aware than that homey. The commercial market for Hip Hop is more ‘dead’ than it was when his last album dropped. 100,000 now sadly is more than what platinum was a couple of years ago. Untitled, Terminate On Sight, sadly those are solid numbers nowadays and it will get worse. What Wayne did was beyond belief and I’m sure the record company baught a shitload of records regardless of the hype because Weezy’s name, his brand recognition is so hot. That made it worth it for the company to buy back albums. He moved a phenomenal amount of records regardless but don’t expect other rappers to come anywhere near his first week figure. Maybe Em, maybe Dre, thats about it. After that you can stick a fork in hip hop album sales for good.

The album didnt sell because outside of Nas’ own management marketing the album online via BOBO and DJ Green Latern, Def Jam didnt do jack shit. I mean how the fuck do you only release the video a week before the album lands?

Plus unless your a big mainstream star, albums dont usually sell in the summer unlike 4th quarter holiday season.

you dont promote an album= it dont sell. the Vid for hero dropped a week before the album came out. No vid= no trl/106= no air play. mainstream media didnt know this shit existed. Nas is just as much to blame a Def Jam- he spent so much time hand wringing about the title he forgot to promote. THAT IS WHY TRACKS WERE LEAKED- he made no buzz on his own (intervews etc.)
